Depends on how you are driving it.

A full tank from empty is circa 60 ltrs. This lasts me about 200-230 miles, most of which is motorway.

Drive it like OJ and you should see 50 miles.

When the light comes on get to a station sharpish! (i know from experience!)

Try not to let it get that empty all the time, you will block up your fuel filter quicker and you don\'t want to o changing that to often.

Fuel economy is crap but its only money ;)

On motorways i can get 100miles maybe slightly more to £20 and in town i get probably 60-80miles on £20 with a fairly std FD. Best bet to not drive it in town:D

I would get your fueling system checked over as it sounds like you have fuel leak somewhere.

As others have said for street driving in and around town you will see bad MPG figures on the M-way not too bad considering i suppose.:(

If you are driving like a bat outta hell then dont expect great MPG figures bro:eek:

On a motorway journey I can get around 21Mpg (very carefully) but commuting through traffic I get around 8Mpg.

It\'s only a short jorney to work though so some of this has to be due to letting it warm up and cool down!

As everyone says its all down to driving style.  I regularly see 12mpg on general commuting, but take it on the Motorway and i\'ve seen 30mpg easily (never once going over 70 though;) )

Worst ive seen for £20.00 though is 60 miles, so 40 says your giving it some :D

I worked out it was somewhere between 5.4 and 7mpg for me on track - not sure exactly how many laps we did!

Scary stuff.

Around 17-20 is normal for general driving.

I filled the tank up in Belfast got the ferry over to Liverpool Drove down to silverstone sat in traffic for about an hour and it only cost me about 1/2 a tank. Then 1/4 of the tank around  the track.
The FD loves its fuel.

Mine must have obscene amounts of power, the thing was mapped by pip @wgt and its got a power fc, maybe i do drive like a peanut only on private roads though

After mine was modded and mapped by pip it came back with about 60hp more and the same MPG

On the 170 mile drive home yesterday after I bought my RX, I averaged 24mpg.   This was about 140 miles of motorway and about 30 miles of town, and on the motorway my speed was around 80 with some 110mph blasts.

As it was my first ever drive in the RX, I\'ve no experience to say whether this is good or bad in relation to other RX\'s or other journeys.

I can say that during a 1500 mile drive to the south of Italy in a Ferrari Testarossa we averaged around 25mpg... and that included a mix of driving including the alps.

Something tells me that RX ownership is going to be more expensive than I had previously thought!

£40 at 79.9p/l usually sees me get 230-250 miles :)

last £40 got me 470km which is roughly 280 miles :D - but I did still have some fuel in the tank so it may have been closer to £45 :)

On a slightly different note, I was suprised at the size of the tank on the FD.

When I bought the car it had very little petrol in it (suprise suprise) so I took it straight to a petrol station.  I put in regular unleaded and it took £58.50.  I must admit I did gulp!

On (another) different note, when I started putting regular in I realised perhaps I should\'ve stuck super unleaded in.  I know Jap imports in general tend to like higher octane fuel.   I will do a proper search in the forum later (to avoid asking the same question as hundreds before me), but just quickly - is it important to run the FD on super unleaded, or not?

Post by: Jin Kazama on September 14, 2004, 12:28:44 PM
You can run your car on unleaded 95 but it will not be very safe. The higher the RON of the fuel you put in, the lower the likelyhood is of detonation or \'pinking\' occuring.... which incidentally can be fatal to a rotary. Many people including myself use Optimax RON 98 as it is the highest octane rated fuel available from the pump in the UK. Modified Jap imports with aftermarket ECU\'s will have been mapped for 100RON fuel and if running high boost levels you will need to put octane booster in too- or get the ECU remapped for UK fuel. Hope this helps.

As an update to the MPG issue, if you ever wondered why RX7\'s consume lots of petrol it\'s because:

"...the thermodynamic efficiency of the engine is reduced by the long combustion-chamber shape and low compression ratio."

I thought that was a nice quote.  (courtesy of howstuffworks)

Just to add my 2p after reading through the thread

I put £60-65 in to fill the tank, I fill up again about 210 miles later

Dave - that works out (using my dodgy calculations!) at 13mpg.

Maybe you should sell the heavy metal capped boots you\'re wearing and buy some light weight airmax\'s  ;)

Mines about the same as Daves, last few tanks have been averaging 12mpg.

It almost seems to cost me less money when its not working :rollin

I am considering hiring a Smart car for £120 a month, that would probably pay for itself in one year by the fuel savings and maintanace

Probably would Dave, thats only two tanks worth a month - bargain!

I fill the fd twice a week and usually only average around 155 miles with each full tank when driven locally.

Took it from Manchester to Devon a few weeks back, was quite pleased when it did 310 miles on £59 of optimax.

I wonder if I should laugh or cry
