Title: Electrical problems
Post by: Sky on September 07, 2004, 12:17:21 PM
Ho hum.

My FD won\'t start. I had this problem before (over the weekend in fact), replaced the battery (with whatever Halfrauds said to use for an rx7 - calcium thing) and all was good for a day or two, until this morning when I turned the key and nothing happened.

I can jump-start it OK, voltage across the battery when running seems right (14.something volts), so I\'m not sure what the problem is. Can anyone suggest things it might be or that I could try?

Cheers,

Rick

is there any charge in the battery or has it gone flat?  obviously if it\'s going flat then there\'s a drain on the system - some kind of short.

The magic eye thing on the battery seems to claim it\'s alright (although it\'s hardly the clearest of indicators). I don\'t have a proper battery tester although I\'ve got a multimeter here.

If you disconnect the positive terminal and put the multimeter (set to Amps/current)between the batt pos and the cable you just took off any reading should indicate a drain. (make sure everything is off fan, radio etc etc)

Shouldn\'t I do the negative rather than the positive?

I have a feeling my multimeter does the wrong current range anyway (sigh)
