Would it be feasible to fit the later 16bit ecu into an earlier car? Or does the 16bit have more I/O?
You can do it - Henning from FDUK has a \'99 engine and loom in his \'92. I dont think it was a job he\'d like to do again!
Honestly, why bother? if you want 16-bit just buy a Power FC which is p\'n\'p and will actually allow you some functionality on the tuning front too; the 16-bit ecu\'s are very marginally different from the earlier ones...
It was mainly just a curiosity. I saw one being advertised cheap a few days ago, and if it was a straight swap I\'d have done it.
(I\'m assuming the later ECU has several advantages over the 8bit)
I cant really see the point in going for a PFC yet, the cars standard apart from a CAT back jobby.

Agreed, simply fitting a PFC you will notice a difference
RE Amemiya also do a loom convertor. But as with all things RE A. they want a mortgage for it.

(Is there a RE Amemiya web site?)
So, does anyone know what features the 16bit has over the 8bit. I\'m considering this as a performance thing, I\'m just interested to know? I remember there being lots of ECU updates etc for the mk2 when they were new, which changed fueling etc.
Someone must have an idea as to what was different? Were there more sensor inputs?
You will be better off changing to an Apexi. IMO
On the later models it wasnt just down to the ECU. They also revised the solenoid rack and changed the turbos to a different model to name just two.

Ta Fish,
Thats what I wanted to know! I wasnt sure wether it was just an ECU change or wether it coincided with a hardware change. Thanks for the info!
