Title: Supercharger in a FD3
Post by: tobbeman21 on September 06, 2004, 08:56:37 PM
Hello

I am thinking of putting a Lysholm supercharger in a RX7 1993.
Everybody is putting huge turbos in there cars but I have not heard of any using a supercharger.
Does anyone know if it has been done?
Read somewhere that it has been done in Japan in competition racing and that they were banned?

Many superchargers have been fitted over the years. Not aware of a Lysholm being used, but same rules as for any screw compressor (just yours is way more efficient).

Atkins rotary do a setup for 12A and 13B engines, but its not very well engineered. Worth having a look for ideas.

And ignore all the people who poo poo it based on having read some flame wars on Rx7club.com. There are pros and cons to any forced induction system which only you can decide on.

is this supercharging on top of the twins?  Eliminates all the lag then :)

Theres a guy on the Aus secton of the RX8club.com thats putting a Lysholm type Supercharger on his rx8 ... think its going to be sold as a kit too.

Strictly speaking all FD\'s are supercharged, they are just being supercharged using a turbo-supercharger.  (IIRC from thermodynamics)

and is an intercooler really an intercooler or an aftercooler ? suppose it depends on where you draw the boundary of your system.  just the turbo and cooler and its an aftercooler, include the engine cycle and its an intercooler :)

Its  a horrid abomination whichever, other than marine applications where you have a constant supply of cool water
