Lads just recently bought a 1997 type R Bathurst, it runs an apexi exhaust, filter an thats it!!
my mates got a st205 GT4 which has exhaust filter but runs 16 psi of boost to which he gained by fittin a valve between the actuator and turbo (manual boost contoller).
His runs ****in quick now an pulls on me! i dont know wat boost i curently run standard cuz i ent got an accurate Boost gauge, but the question i wana know is how do i match this power??? wat mods need i apply?? his valve cost him £20!!!! was considerin one of those but i dont know wat my engine can take!!
please advise me wisely!!!
many thanx
Alex
Alex, bleed valves are a very crude way of boost control.
To do it properly you need to look at getting yourself an Apexi PFC or anyother make of ECU.
Once you have one of these, you should kick his ar$e... :D
Your boost pattern should be 12-10-12 psi.

ok so ur saying my 2 options are a complete ECU change e.g. motec m800 or An electronic adjustable boost controller e.g. Apexi!
The ecu\'s lookin at £1200 (bank loan) and its cost to get it mapped an shit! so i think im gona go for Apexi adjustable boost controller! wats the maximum boost i should run on stock engine then without smoking it 2 pieces!! (safely)?????
Alex
No more than 0.9 bar on a stock engine.
No, got yer info wrong!!
Get an Apexi power FC (ecu) with commander for about £600 new, and it also does boost control :)

As per Max. The Motec is serious top end stuff, where as the Apexi P(ower)FC is a cheapy ECU.

apexi pfc + comander is about 600 and the boost controler is about another 300 chek out sensetuning for the boost conroler only as ther pfcs and comanders a pricy i would also recomend a bigger inter cooler or at least some more air onto the stock 1 u wont need the pfc remaped if u cant because it alredy has a map on it and it shoudl be ok for raising the boost i thin k:confused:
or....... buy mine and paste him at 10 psi, 14psi and he wont even see you!
^---- im wiht him his car is sweet and im shure if you sold urs u could get the cash easy for it its a neat car and ur m8 will have that look on his face that tells he is about to lie and say " therse somethign wrong with my car"
I would look at the Profec B boost controller over the Apexi unit.
The users of the Profec are having better results controlling boost than us Apexi users.
The is ONLY boost controllers, nothing to do with the ECU\'s.
Fish
as per Fish, i use a Profec B, couldnt get the profec A to work on the single turbo for some reason although it worked on my FC TII. Profec B works perfectly. No boost creep or drop off, But as stated above, dont just wind your boost up on a stock FD, it will go POP.
whats 0.9 bar eqivelent to in psi?
not thay my car even manages stock results.
.1bar = 1.47psi
1bar = 14.7psi
So it would be somewhere around 12.9psi
Fish
ok guys maybe the motec was abit over the top, I will get an apexi fc unit and commander for £600 hopefully!!!
i thought i\'d be able to run more than 0.9 bar!! how the **** am i gona beat him at 16psi?? his thing ****ing launches! how can i get more boost without ripping apart my rotor or is that the only way???
oh i would buy yours dude but has it got handling aswell as 1/4 power??, see mines setup perfect with its adjustable in car tein suspension, its track handling!

if you want to know next time try this neat trick
go to //www.google.co.uk
and type 0.9bar in psi
and it will convert it for you :) works with other things to and its usefull to know :)
The celica is 4WD he\'s always gonna have the legs over you at launch.
But the celica is also a heavy fducker so with an FD running 0.9 bar, and not quite as much power losses through the transmission you will have more than enough power to hold your own.
