Alright all
Just bought my first Turbo 2, for £450 but in need of a rebuild!!
Does anyone have any people they can recommend for the job, or know of any places to buy a rebuild kit from as im tempted to have a go myself!!!
Cheers

Speak to Pip - safe hands :)
Good looking car, are you gonna go for a bit more power too?
where did you find that car ???????????????????????????
if you can ship the engine to pip - you are looking at just short of 1800 for a rebuild - if you take the car to him then you are looking at about 2400 or there abouts
the kit will be about £700 , depends on the damage done ( if it needs housing and the such like then that cost would go up )
failing that - i will give you £450 for the car :)
Cheers All
Found the car at a local garage, bloke bought it for 3k 6 months ago, had brand new clutch fitted, then one tip seal went. and that basicly put him off rotary engines!!! so i offered him £450 and he took it!
Im hoping to go for a little more power, probably just porting and full exhaust, im only 22 so im trying to keep the insurance down!!
just spoke to Pip, sounds a decent bloke. ive been thinking whether to give the rebuild a go myself, has anyone else had any experience of rebuilding a turbo 2? thinking i might be biting off more than i can chew!!!!!
Cheers
good god thats a bargain !
the rebuild ... humm you are a braver man than me - BUT - at only £450 for the car - what have you got to loose
Pip is a top bloke and knows his stuff - but you pay for quality work :)
porting is a good idea when having a rebuild - not much of a cost implication at that point and make it go a bit better :)
i would suggest you take the engine out - if at this point you are really struggling - then dont rebuild it yourself
if you get it out all nice and easy and you feel confident then go for it ... at the end of the day you could ship it to Pip in peices :)
Good Luck and keep us posted
Stu
/cough/
offer still stands if you cant afford/manage it
/cough/
cheers grinder
i think thats probably the best idea, cant really afford £2400, but should be able to stretch to £2000 inc porting!! only thing then is i have to find money for exhaust!!!!!
sean took his engine out and put it back in OK - all he did was have a 1,000 page thread on here :)
i went along to help him out when he was putting it back in
people will offer you all the advice and help you need - just ask for it :)
get the engine done and worry about the rest of it later
failing that see if you can get a second hand engine - im sure ross has one for £1000 - with only 7K on it
thats a cheap way of doing things
take care
stu
I dont suppose you have any more info on this Ross? That sounds good!!!!
I had my TII rebuilt and Bridgeported @ RX Motors for just under £2k give Tim @ RX Motors a call 01725 516462
Grinder wont stop until he gets his vert for under a grand, will he?
Leave the poor boy alone and stop scaring him, your getting worse than scoobs for harassment:p
If you are thinking of removing the engine yourself or the full rebuild (i did my TII, no problem for £600, but its plenty of work), definately buy one of the Mazda workshop manual cds from ebay or you can download most of it somewhere on the web, cant find it at the minuite...at least you can see what you\'re in for before you start. I had my FD core rebuilt by Pip and its spot on but I did pay £3600 for it. I know a number of people have had them from Tim at RX and had no problems either.
If money is an issue then i\'d definitely give a rebuild a go yourself, as long as you\'re pretty mechanically apt, have plenty of patience and are able to be very systematic. Try a search for rebuild threads, there are a few about these days and they should give you a few ideas of the sort of effort, cost and time involved.
Rotary Aviaiton in the US is probably the best place to buy a full "master" rebuild kit from. About £600 in total shipped to the UK. Although if it has thrown a tip, then you will more than likely need at least one new rotor and housing, and if this is the case the price of a basic rebuild from Pip et al. will certainly start adding up. Whereas if you build it yourself you can get yourself 2ndhand rotors and housings from someone like Tim @RXmotors:bandit
Anyway best of luck with it and I may even get pop round to have a gander and maybe even try to give advice (if required) if you take it on, as i only live in Notts.
Regards,
Paul:)
Cheers all, i think im going to give it a go, even if it is just for the experience!!!
Paul: I will be more than greatful for any advice along the way, have rebuilt conventional engines before, but nothing like this. your welcome to pop round whenever you like!!!
Cheers
:)
Good good, if you\'ve rebuilt piston engine before then you should already know the importance of doing things in the correct order and to torque everything up correctly, so you should be fine:D.

Hope this helps,

P.S. Yes m8 I can pop round for a chat if you like, or come round to mine then I can show you the old ruined and scored rotor and housing that will soon be turned into a clock:rollin ;) I live In Wollaton just off the A52 before the University campus.
Cheers Paul
im really hoping my rotor and housing isnt in that bad condition!!! let me know when\'s good to pop round and have a gander at the bits, i think it will be very beneficial!!!!

Thank mate
Just seen the phrase \'second hand housings\'. Dont go down that route unless you really, really have to. If you use 2nd hand housings then your just going to have to do another rebuild at a point in the not to distant future! Save yourself the hassle and go for new housings as well. I\'d rather spend another £500 on housings than have to strip the engine again to replace them, which will be much harder to do because your tips will be in seperate peices, not glued as they are new!
Anyone else care to back me up?
Good luck with the rebuild, as long as you take it easy and do it by the book all will be ok.
(dont forget to ensure the oiling system is in A1 condition when you rebuild, otherwise its just money wasted)
:)

Fair point, but it all really depends on how many miles you do in a year, what you have planned for the engine and how much money you have in the first place to spend. Say you only do 6000miles per year, and if you use 2ndhnad housings, rotors and side plates but everything else is new i.e. apex seals, side seals, corener seals, thrust bearings etc. And then say it\'ll last half as long as a rebuilt engine with brand new housings, assuming both were rebuilt to the same "excellent" level ;), so max life of new rotorhousing motor is 60,000miles, then life of 2ndhand housing motor will be 30,000miles as a worst case, so again say you do 6,000miles per annum. Then the rebuilt engine should last you 5years. I reckon i\'d be happy only having to do an engine rebuild ever 5years, but maybe that\'s just me??.
So in the end it\'s all relative because you could simply throw a tip 3000miles down the road, but if all is assumed well, it is really up to the individual involved and again how much money they have to spend on their motor and of course what they want to gain out of it i.e. power, reliability, longetivity etc etc.
Just my opinion,
Paul:D
True, but if its thrown a tip you can pretty much say bye bye to one housing, and if your going to change one you might as well do two..... :)
hi again Paul
