Just updated my car\'s profile ovwe on pistonheads.com. Added in all the things I could think of including insurance. It\'s a good warning to people who think you can FD on a budget...

yep yep.. Tis truly expensive. I was throwing past 4 months of fuel receipts I had. After totalling them up; came to around £1900.
Freddy, is that all? You must be a part time driver. ;)

Just working out my own costs. £1500 ish on insurance, but that\'s understandable considering my age. Probably around £1200 on fuel (I don\'t use the car for work/shopping/short journeys, just weekend fun and days out) £500 so far on servicing (one full on service at DS engineering, plus oil changes every 2000 miles, and other minor work by me). Parts totalling so far about £250 (headlight motor, some airbox related stuff, airpump and a couple of other minor things). Soon to come; a full on 4 wheel laser alignment, followed by 4 new tyres. Probably £5-600 for the lot. Total of about £4000 ish. Oh, and about £15 on valve dust caps. Lousy punk kids  :D
It\'s nothing compared to your costs, I guess, but then it\'s remained near standard since I bought it, so no uprated parts or ECU mapping to add to the bill. I\'ve been lucky enough to avoid any of the major expenses like the engine rebuild so far. I also do a lot less miles than you, I\'ll probably only do about 5000 this year, and it would be even less, but at the start of the year I had to use it for the morning run to work. Withough that I might only have done about 3500-4000 miles. I think I\'m about as close to "FD(ing) on a budget" as it\'s possible to be, without neglecting the car. It\'s certainly something for potential owners to consider. It might also be good to get a selection of different yearly ownership costs from people in different situations; High mileage drivers, younger drivers, people with highly modified cars vs people with standard cars, maybe even newer cars vs older cars, it\'d certainly be interesting to see if a 12 year old FD needs significantly more TLC than a 2 year old Spirit R. It can\'t hurt to get some data together :)
Certainly would be interesting to do a major comparison - our own version of the JD power jobby! Easiest way would be for a load of people to get onto pistonheads and enter the info on there then we can pull it all together...
Most of the miles I put on in the year of ownership were commuting which I don\'t do now (previously a 70 mile round-trip!). Since Feb it\'s been weekends and a trip to Le Mans.
The next year of ownership should see the cost per month fall quite drastically assuming no mishaps!

£23k Holy sh1t! Wish I hadn\'t worked that out now. Oh well, it\'s a hobby and no one can make me stop :)
now I worked out mine on Pistonheads calculator thing and because I\'ve had a rebuild the value of the car has increased since purchase (great thing about a cheap FC :D ) still £3400 in a year is a bit evil (that\'s with -£1500 depreciation!) http://www.pistonheads.com/members/showcar.asp?carId=13705
