Hi people,
Always loved the FD and I\'m leaning towards changing my FTO for one in the near future. I\'m reasonably well versed in Jap motors but RX\'s have an extra special bit of pazazz that draws me in (and is also a bit intimidating).
What I\'m after really is your opinion (which I\'m sure you\'ve all been asked before, but please bear with me) about running an FD as a second car as I\'ve got a crappy diesel for everyday commuting.
I\'m currently running an FTO GPX with a 50 shot of nitrous and that\'s pretty quick (1/4 mile in 14.5) but I think I\'m now ready at the early age of 31 to graduate to a serious performance car.
Could you guys let me know what the highs and lows of FD ownership are please. On the up side I live about 2 miles away from WGT autos in Northwich so any serious work can be covered by these guys, who I believe are pretty knowledgable in the ways of the rex. I\'ve seen some absolutley gorgeous motors with re-amemiya bodykits and lights and I\'d like to aim for one of these, but just wondering if there\'s anything to be on the lookout for besides the usual engine stuff such as compression, cooling, fuelling etc.
Anyway, hi from a newby and be gentle to a RWD virgin.
Cheers
AL.
Hello there,
WGT are one of the best from what ive heard and seen.
Basically, be prepared for huge fuel bills, make sure you live closer to a shell than WGT.
The only other advice i can give is decide what the eventual maximum power your gonna want is before you buy.
I bought an awesome Twin Turbo that i love, but now i want more power through the single turbo route. Its gonna cost a fortune to convert, and a lot cheaper to buy already done. So im selling my rex so i can buy a single turbo in the future.
Other than that the rex is the best car ive ever driven, and as a second car you wont do much better for the money.

its in the for sale section. if u have the money its a hell of a bargain. £8000 a drop of 5 grand on what i originally wanted coz ive found the car i desperately want and have to sell fast.
Found it http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8758
Only problem for me is I\'m not a fan of red. Personal preferance and all that....
I\'m more of the black, blue, dark metallic looking thing really. But that\'s one hell of a nice motor you\'ve got for sale....hope you get what you\'re looking for.
Thanks for the info as well. Not bothered about fuel bills. The FTO only does about 24mpg, so anything better than 10mpg is OK with me, as the miles will be done by the diesel. I\'d not thought about the future power prospects though. What\'s the realistic limit for the twin turbo, and for it to be still be driveable? What is the changeover, powerwise for the twin turbo to big single. It must be gettin on for 350 - 400 before you run out of puff on the TT??!! 400 in something weighing about 1270kg will do me for a good while I reckon.

i think someone is running around 390 on twins. But that is definately the limit from what ive read.
Obviously a single will get you that, and a lot more if you get bored with only having 400bhp :)
With it being a second car, you never know.
