Title: Transmission whining noise ???
Post by: peccy on August 29, 2004, 11:29:13 AM
just got my self a 93 RX7 Type R, pictures and introdution soon... But...

ive noticed a whining noise coming from what seems under the centre console (in front of gear knob), loudest in 1st and 2nd at low revs, also does it in nuetral but stops when i press the clutch down.

im hoping its maybe an uprated clutch or even box?

or could it be a gearbox problem!?

Goes away in nutral when you push in the clutch?

I\'ll put $10 on the thrust bearing being dry and therefore noisy.

Something they just do. ;)

If it\'s really noisy and/or you decide you need ew clutch, chane it over. Otherwise they usually just keep on ticking.

And if you wish to grease/oil it, remember you would be oiling something near  the clutch plate, which makes clutches unhappy...

normally the thrust bearing makes a noise when the clutch pedal is down, not up, if it does it when it is up its the main shaft in the gear box which may mean bearings in the box worn

Check the gearbox oil level as well, but it does sound like the box needs to come out and receive some attention.
