Any suggestions on brake caliper colour???
The cars purple with gold alloys as below, all suggestions welcome but no gay colours!!! im looking at you Si / OJ:rollin :rollin :rollin :
I\'d say either try to match the colour of the wheels, or else go with something more universal, like chrome or black.
Pink is the answer :p
If it was me, black. A dont think a bright colour would go with your car.
I was thinking dark blue???
Wot you think???
Or possibly chrome, not sure how much that is though, just about to go and find out?
I\'ve done mine, but I didn\'t want a rice colour, so I just made them look cleaner and used black! Job done:cool
surely pink isn\'t a million miles from Purple thou so it should match nicely & you can even PX yer doggy

pmsl
Seriously thou, what do the callipers actually say on them if anything?, i only ask as the subaru 4 pots looked good with letters in white & calliper in black.
Usually i\'d say red is good for sticking out on callipers but dont think it would go so well on yer purple thing, easy fellas

lol, if you can get them shiny that\'d be cool but not sure how easily that\'d be done?
Black is a safe bet but not so stand out from the crowd i suppose it depends what you fancy really.....
Si (still got black & white paint from when i did me scooby ones if you want it?)
surely darkish purple would look quite good & match....?
Si (doesn\'t dare mention saints score yet (http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/otn/tongue/newtonguesmile.gif) lol)
Probably be outlandishly expensive but I reckon that they\'d look the business if they were cromed and polished.
**EDIT** As an afterthought - My god that exhaust is shiney!!!
Right bought gold paint, so will post the b4 and after pics tomorrow as cant be arsed to do it today!!!:o
The calipers say Mazda on them so gonna do then all in gold then monday do the writing in black possibly? depends if i can be arsed??:o
*cough* chelsea 2-1 s\'pton *cough*
On a brighter note UP THE TOFFEES!!!!!! WHO R YA WHO R YA???
gotta be black gurj.
u dont wanna pull the attention away from the rest of the car.
I reckon gold with the "mazda" writing in black will look good no???
you just want an excuse to post more pics of yer motor mate :p :p
Sounds good though bud. Do these need to be taken off to do this or can you paint them while they\'re on the car (being careful of course)?
Let us know how you clean then (if that\'s necessary) and what paint you use too as I\'m thinking of doing mine too.
Oh, yeah, and prices too would be nice to know.
Sharky,
lets see if i can answer your questions buddy,
1) The wheels gotta come off.
2) Brake calipers can be painted whilst on car.
3) There is a cleaner with the kit - laquer cleaner.
4) £22:50 for the kit from........... halfords.
If you wish to see more pics of me car you only gotta ask matey;)
you gora take them off if you want to paint them properly bud take all the old crap stuff off too with a wire brush, preferably on a drill, then paint from a clean slate, & devils (http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/contrib/ruinkai/FIREdevil.gif) advocate mode on: the gold paint is heat resistant/proof caliper or radiator or such like paint isn\'t it?
Si
PS this toffee talk is this to do with your job?

Maybe yours do matey, but if the calipers stay on, I can leave my wheels on!! :rollin
heh, heh, heh.:cool
Right had a look at the job in hand today, raining earlier so couldn\'t make a start!!!
But seems quite straight forward can do the painting without taking the brake calipers off:) problem is i have the crappy jack that comes with the car so 1 wheel at a time............ doh!!!
Gonna paint the caliper place wheel back on, then move around the car like so, and leave it standing till tomorrow by which time all should be dry???
Nearly forgot, might help if i had a paint brush???? dont ya think.......... doh!!!!!
I\'ve just done mine red :) on a white car with (for the min) white wheels. Looks very nice. As for the kits, don\'t follow the instructions.
They say pour the whole of the two tins together. Waste of paint if you do this, plus you will have to rush in the application. Use a desert spoon to measure out the paint and the hardener (mine was 3 paint, 1 hardener). This should easily do two calipers (up front first, then rears). I\'ve done 6 calipers with my 20 quid kit and still have enough for more !
Get a wire brush on an electric drill (not the cup type of brushes - except for the inside of the rear caliper) and remove as much gunk as possible. Since all the brakes are aluminium you will find there is a nice smell coming off the caliper :) .
Do the brake disc as well (did mine with engine block black, comes in a small tin. very thin). The fronts are the best place to start, much easier to paint, less odd shapes. Best brush to use is the old style art brushs, not too big to get paint everywhere. Makes a nice job.
Do 2 coats and will make a nice shiney caliper. You will find the paint is starting to go off once you have done 2 calipers !
Hope this helps, i knew i should have taken some pics while i was doing it ! lol
I did mine with the standard jack ! will take about an hour and a bit for each wheel. Watch the wet paint whn you put the wheel back one !
Cheers Shaun:)
No problem, main thing is to do the paint mixing in small quantities
& DONT paint the whole discs!!! (http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/cwm/cwm/eek2.gif)
Si
lol :D
Just do the inside bit, the outside of the rotor on mine where too rusty to derust ! Plus i wanted to stop
Hammerite. Hard as you like, easily tolerates the heat, and is about £4 a can.
btw - I\'d say red, as most of the detaily bits on the car from stock are red, and as the wheels are gold, it\'ll confuse the impact.
You know I\'m right, and you know you jhave to trust me on pretty stuff...:D
I originally used hammerite. Yes it is a cheap option, but it takes forever to dry. It fades quicker than the caliper stuff. Plus it doesn\'t give as bright a colour. Found caliper paint alot better. I have wondered if the stuff can be bought from a professional paint shop for alot less !
If you can get to central london i\'ll give you a 2 ton trolley jack and axle stands, argos sent me one free by mistake awhile back, its been cluttering up my film room for ages!
im gonna do mine green when i get round to it :)
do the calipers get REALLY hot ?
i have some metal / radiator paint and was wondering if that would do the job ?

Depends how hard you brake. :p

I wouldn;t risk it, but that\'s me.

Unless you like the flames coming out from the alloys look i would avoid the use of radiator paint, mind you it might keep your pads nice and snug! ;)
Radiatior paint? Have you painted your house to match your car? Is that not taking it a bit far? :D
the paint was bought cause it was cheap ( £1 a tin ) and i thought i could paint some of the car with it
the calipers being the main item
i dont know what would happen once it gets hot - i assume it would just flake off?
It might burn off....depends what temperature its rated too? (if it says on the tin?
or it might melt and run all over your pads and discs. :eek
hummmmmmm not sure what to do now ??
do i risk it ( on a small area ) - or just not bother ??
your call bud,
worst case scenario - you have no brakes, and flaming arches.

Best case, you save £20
I know which way I\'d go but if you want to test the paint first, see what happens if you paint a piece of metal and then put it in your oven at max temp for a little bit. Brakes will get hotter then your oven , but at least it\'ll tell you if it\'s got any kind of heat resistance to it.
i like the oven test - thats a good idea :)
just need to do it when the better half isnt in !!!
i got some heat proof paint off a friend of mine - was good upto 800c - sprayed it over my incinerator - and it didnt stand a chance :)
always wondered who owned things like that.... :p
What do you use it for?
BTW, "to incinerate things" is not an answer.
Better watch out mate, it might be for making sharks fin soup out of people that ask to many questions! :D ;)

:rollin
here is the story
my dad wanted to build one , so on the way home from work i saw an beer barrel at the side of the road
stopped car - and went to pick it up - sheeesh it nearly killed me - yeah thats right - it was full
so off to my dads - pour 80 litres of lager down the drain , bit of fabrication later and thats what i ended up with
and its use - well i use it for buring mail , bank statements , small children etc..
i get palLets from work and chop them up and sit and just burn things :)
Its nice to sit out of an evening with a roaring fire and a can of beer in hand
so to keep this on track - i might paint it green but i cant see it working - if 800c stuff came off - i cant seem rad paint staying on :)
you evil nasty horrible man
YOU POURED BEER DOWN THE DRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Si (shocked at the wrong doer(http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/contrib/sarge/Blurp_anim.gif))
Should have poured it down Si\'s throat!!!
it was the worse moment of my life :(
it didnt half take some getting shut of - the froth was about 3 feet high :(
Did you get your calipers painted Gurj?
If so, post some pics of how they came out :)
Errrrrrr,
took the wheel off to see what we can see, then put the whell back on....................... thats as far as i got:rollin :rollin :rollin
Gonna do it next week, as away this weekend like;)
now you did put it on the right way round didn\'t you......(http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/cwm/cwm/uhoh3.gif) lol

Slight thread hijack here...
How about on a Lightening Yellow 8? As an interim measure until the modding budget is up to six-pot APs :D
There\'s no writing on them, as far as I can see... Can\'t really do yellow because I won\'t be able to match it exactly, so it will look rubbish. Any other suggestions?
For the original poster I think gold to match the wheels might work... but where you\'re going to find heatproof gold paint I dunno.
Dude you can get the paint for the brake calipers from Halfords.
Blue, White, Purple, Gold,Red, Silver.
