Title: I.C.E systems
Post by: leggysrx7 on August 27, 2004, 11:04:46 PM
Looks like I\'m getting the all clear from the wife to upgrade my sound system....

...i\'m sorting myself out with a TFT monitor and DVD/MP3 din sized headunit....but i wanna upgrade the sound as well.

Replaced the stock rear speakers already, but i\'m needing some bass....thinking of running a couple of subs/amps...was thinking of install the subs in the rear seats...ie in the back support! The seats very, very rarely get used, but as i have a young daughter i need the use of the rear seats..so the the subs would need to be connect to an on/off switch type idea, free flow, with a fabric cover to protect from damage....

...i\'m kinda thinking out aloud, but need some thoughts, ideas, pictures of custom installs.....my email adress is
leggysrx7@yahoo.com should anyone wish to email me pictures of their installs

Please give me some ideas...what do you think of the subs in the rear back rests????Any recommendations for what subs/amps to use....

Help,help,help.......

you woul dneed to strenghen the back support to get any good sound from the subs, but a good install is possible.

This is what iwould do if i wanted a discrete setup:-

The seat back is just big enough for two 10" subs, so thats what i would go for, how powerful is down to individual taste.

unbolt the seat back and working from the back cut holes big enough to alow space for the subs cone and rubber surround.  Dont go through the front vinyl layer on the seat though, this way it looks completely normal.

You will have to make a box up that sticks to recommended size for the subs you use, and it will have to be shallow enough to fit under the rear strut brace.  Make sure the holes you make for the subs in the box are positioned to match the holes in the seat.

Attach the box to the seat and the boot floor, and pierce some holes in the back rest to allow the air to escape.  Oila! Sorted with minimum effort.

If you shop around you will beable to find amps small enough to fit under the front seats too.

Hope this helps.

How about a boxed sub in the boot? The the box is matched to a sub the sound can be stunning, Far better than a free air sub

Im used to lots of boot space like im me scoob, havin bought the RX and being very fussy about sound quilty i had to do some thinking. I\'ve been used to 2 infinity perfect 12s running off a 401 kenwood mono block, none of which would fit in the boot of an RX 7,, well not without reckin the seats. Could loose the spare wheel cutom fibre glass sub box in its place (iv done it before loadsa hassel). so in the end i went for poly kevlar focals font compant and rear speakers, with a Rockford fosgate 800w daul voice 8inch sub in a 0.93 cu/ft box with a small 500w mono block on the back of it

Sounds awsome, is light weight, still thumps out hard loud deep and punchy bass.

It\'s a sealed box mate....  it actually is shaped to the spare wheel well so it maximise\'s the space...... just about bang on the recommended volume.....  Sounds good as well :)  sound deadened the whole car so no rattles and no boy racer thumps from a mile off  :)

cheers

Don\'t laugh..... but i used Brown Bread  :)  thats what it\'s called.....  really good stuff.  It costs about 14.99 a roll but keep an eye out on ebay as sometimes it comes up cheap.
All depends on how far you want to go....  Stop the rattles or totally stop the music escaping the car.   I went ott but it was well worth it.  You can not sit in the car too long or your head hurts.....  but shut the doors and you can hardly hear it.   I did two layers everywhere.....doors, floors, boot, even the roof.  I used about 12 rols of the stuff  :)  I like my music loud, but hate that boy racer....."I can hear you coming a mile away"  so i try to keep my music for me, not my neighbours.

Cheers

Adam
