Post by: andyrose on August 25, 2004, 02:54:50 PM
Hi guys
anyone got any pointers (do\'s and don\'ts) for taking the twin turbo pack off and on. I\'ve got to replace the gaskets and i\'m not looking forward to it!
Cheers

By all acounts a bit of a bugger to do with the engine in as room is very limited.

I have only done it with the engine out so can\'t help you much. You will need a 14mm long reach socket and a powerbar as the studs/nuts are a bit tight!

Someone here should be able to tell you how with the engine still in place...

cheers for that matey
\'a bit tight\' cor your right on that one. my local \'performance garage had a quick look and they said \'best of luck mate\'
wanted a thousand pounds to do it so thats why its DIY time.

I\'ve got a week of work soon so should be able to manage it in that time eh?

I will take pics as i go along and prob do a quick \'idiots guide\' after

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL!!!

Make sure you label all the pipes/vacuum lines with tape before you remove them! You don\'t want to have to work out where they go after!

Good luck mate, Rx-7\'s are not as daunting as they first appear, if you have a basic mechanical background, im currently reassembling my engine and putting it back in. I didnt do the rebuild though, thought i would leave that to a professional!

its probably more work, but less of a struggle to take the engine out, and at least you can be sure of getting to all the studs easily (which usually come out and need replacing also) and putting them ALL back to the correct torque. I reckon I may have the same job to do when Xmas comes but i\'m sure it\'ll beat watching the tv.....
