dont you need a special type of tester for the rx??? im sure someone mentioned something along those lines before, either that or a conversion of the figures needs to be done but dont qoute me on that.
i was reading up on the American forum that someone used a normal piston compression tester on his rebuilt engine and his reading s were a lot lower than expected 70 psi, he then used a rotary specific one from mazda or something and got 110 psi?
I don’t want to take it to any specialist as they are too far from me .
any ideas?

Your not that far from Milford mate, take it down to T W White\'s and get them to do a comp test for you.
milford ?
do they have one ?

you need a rotary compression tester
Is 5 ish low is it?
What can it get down to without giving any problems?
5-bar is low, may be last legs low. Altho an even 5bar across all faces is better. I would say 6bar is \'ok\'-ish low. 8-bar is nice :)
The lower compression gets, the harder it will get to start and the less power it will make.
just take it to a mazda dealer and tell them that its an rx8 and with all the torq the 8 has it turned the engin round 90* im shure they will sort ya out

What sort of readings should we get on a 3mm apex seal, low compression rotor(8.5:1) and Premix? We are getting about 5.2 - 5.3 on all six faces. About 18 months since rebuild.Car starts and runs fine.
