Title: Turbo Resurrection
Post by: eyedee on August 23, 2004, 11:25:25 PM
Allow me to display my ignorrance in the subject of turbo\'s by asking; Is it possible to rebuild a turbo?  Specifically, a pair of FD 92 Twin Turbo\'s from my Type-R?  They are not completely dead, but after 60K I\'m sure they\'ve seen better days and was thinking wouldnt it be economical and interesting if I could somehow rebuild them!  Any expert opinions/ideas/answers?

Yep! Can be done.  Most tuners should be able to sort you out.  I had thought of this when I first got my fd.  Was quoted circa £450 each turbo + removal and refitting.  Changed my mind for the mo!!!;)

Like the man says, a ball ache to remove (£££\'s) and expensive to rebuild (£££\'s). Hence its common to just replace a set that have shit themselves with a decent second hand set.

Thanks guys.
I know its probably a pain in the ass job to do, but I would be interested in rebuilding them myself - if I could get my hands on the relevant parts and some guidelines on the subject.  Does anyone know where rebuild kits or parts can be had?

Turbo rebuilds are a bit of a bitch, you\'d be better off removing them yourself and them sending them to Turbo Technics, I cant remember the cost but they are second to none at what they do.

they need to be balanced to do it properly which a turbo place could do.

when a company of worthy reput rebuild your turbos they balance them for you also up to some incredible rpm\'s.
i would recomend turbo technics any day of the week. Not too sure on their prices but they KNOW what they are doing.

Hmm, maybe refurbing them myself isnt the best option afterall.  It looks a nightmare job to do without the tools or the experience (and I\'m lacking in both departments! ;) )  Maybe I should just run em until they die!  cheers for your advice all.  :cool
