Title: went for a test drive and...
Post by: peccy on August 23, 2004, 02:30:47 PM
they guy put normal 95ron unleaded in, and also, a defi water temp guage read 100C (the max value was only 120)

is this normal

not to sure as only just starting to look to buy a rx7. this one was a fresh import.

havin come from a imported STi scooby, 95ron would cause det and then engine failure!, do RX7 ECU\'s adapt to lower octane without needed a remap?

100C is pretty hot for normal (i.e. non-track) conditions - mine will get up to ~95 in heavy traffic but usually sits at late 80s when blatting in the open.

Normal unleaded may not be the best depends if it\'s a UK car (somewhat de-tuned from Jap import IIRC).  If it\'s a standard Jap import with Jap ECU then it\'s designed to run on 100 octane and 95 isn\'t good for it...

Sounds like the owner doesn\'t know too much about what the car needs and maintenance may be suspect (plus things like warming up properly and cooling down).
