So im still trying to get info on buying a gen 3 rx7.
I have my initial cash, i know what my insurance will be, and i
know about getting a tracker on the car.
But i guess i want to know what other costs there are involved in running a Rex as a 2nd Car. I am aware that the MPG is pretty poor.
Can anyone tell me about servicing and maintence costs?
Cheers
Stu
To be honest, not as bad as you might think. It also depends on how willing you are to get your hands dirty (ie. do the servicing etc. yourself, as the bulk of my last servicing bill was labour costs). Of course, if anything goes wrong with the car it can be a different story, particularly anything in the engine department.
I\'ve had mine for rougly... 8-9 months, not long, I know. In that time I really haven\'t had to shell out any major cash on the car. I\'m pretty sure I spent more on my old 205 GTi in the same amount of time. :) That damn thing was always going wrong and needing parts.
Parts costs for the FD aren\'t exactly cheap, but that\'s the beauty of a message board like these. Lots of people selling parts, lots of contact numbers for breakers, specialists, etc. so you should be able to pick up most things for sensible money.
I assume you already know that sooner or later you\'ll need an engine rebuild, and that will be a fairly major expense, say £2000-£5000, depending on whether you\'re just looking for a simple rebuild, or some ported beast with 3mm apex seals, ceramic coating, etc. Of course, if you buy a car that\'s had a recent rebuild, that\'s one worry taken care of.
In the end it\'s like any other car. One that\'s been properly taken care of, and not too heavily modded, shouldn\'t cause you too many headaches. Buy a heap and you\'ll be selling your kidneys to pay for parts.
Of course, Your mileage may vary (as the old saying goes :D )
