Title: Problem with starter!
Post by: Wav on August 21, 2004, 12:32:34 PM
Hi guys,

Me being the mug i am have agreed to lend my std exhuast and cat out in order for a friend to pass the sva for his FD. So now i\'ve gotta live with a straight mid and blitz nur-spec exhuast on my car:rolleyes: ;)

Problem is now my car won\'t start:(, Faheem fitted it as that was one of the conditions I gave him (am already regretting it), but I think he put it on ok. Basically the starter simply isn\'t turning the car over, it makes a clicking noise but that is it. I\'ve tried different batteries, but to no avail. So i\'m assuming it\'s gotta be the starter sticking and the clicking is the solenoid. I\'ve rolled the car backward and forward in gear to try and release it but made no difference.

Am I missing something here? is it not starting due to something that hasn\'t been disconnected or is there an earth somewhere that should be connected up that isn\'t? only thing i can think of is that the cat heat sensor is not earthed or decommisioned??????

Please can someone show me the light before i take the starter off and throw it at the wall:mad:

Cheers, Paul

Come on guys, someone must have replaced their mid pipe before and know whether or not you have to de-activate the cat heat sensor???

Regards,

Paul:)

erm dunno mate seems strange thou if it was that, there was talk about sum1 who had the light keep coming on & he\'d had a decat so may just of been it going iffy at the ends or sumin but cant see how that\'d stop it starting but as you know i know nothing which is why i know even less about what Pip did with said bits when cat went bye bye
Si (no help again but at least you dont feel ignored (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/realhappy/xxrotflmao.gif) lol)

Cheers for the reply Si, but have now sorted it, the earth that is conncted to the cat should attach to the box which earths the solenoid to the starter. As the earth strap is still attached to the cat opn the other rx my starter didn\'t want to play. By simply making up an earth strap from the body to the gearbox the car started straight away:cool

Car sounds very nice, but am a little worried bout running mnore boost, it doesn\'t seem to creep mcuh but now runs at 11psi. Oh by the way it shouldn\'t be running lean as i also fitted his RE-A redom ecu which at the low boost setting is set to 0.8kg/cm thingy, which roughly equates to 11.36psi so am guessing all is ok. Only thing is that with my std set up my boost only ever goes upto 9psi at the most, does that sound a little low? the 2nd turbo kicks in fine and everything moves pretty swiftly.

What you guys think?

Ta, Paul:)

so only .6 bar does sound a little low at best i guess, seems there\'s loads of potential reasons for underboosting thou.
RE-A ecu\'s i understood to be set for a particular level of mods take it this is what you\'ve got in accordance with mods? Not that i guess that\'ll be yer boost problem......
Si (no guarantees init )

Just been out for a proper blast and all is well, lots of nice pops between 2nd and 3rd gear if you let it run to the beeper through the twisties:cool

Yeah Si, the car i took it from was the one we rebuilt so is std ports, but with air filter, straight through and blitz nur spec back. Only thing i don\'t have on is air filter and you can feel it holding back at higher revs in the top gears, think i\'ll order a hks panel one on monday;) Will put a set of denso iradium plugs in tomorrow aswell as i think the 7\'s on the leading will be too hot, and is better to be safe than sorry:)

Laters, Paul

P.S. Si give Grinder (stu) a shout and get him to give you or scan you the instructions for the MPC, i\'ve left mine at work.
