Title: Cars that beg for a rotary conversion
Post by: Eccentric shaft on March 27, 2024, 07:08:06 PM
Thought I might as well start a new thread on this.

What car(s) would you like to see converted to rotary power?

Post some pics of your pick(s) with or without an explanation and a custom model name!

There's a lot of good candidates out there. Corollas and Datsun 1200 are already tried and tested, Familia's, GLC/323's and 626's as well. As we know, the Rotus and Rotary Lada have been built and The Rotang is on the way. Give us your candidates. As a first, how about this alternative rotary wagon, which we could call the Ford 12AM.  :D

Oh, yes the A35! And this one. Simca 1200S. Don't be fooled by the air intakes on the bonnet. It's rear-engined like its boxy family car sisters.

Mate !!

You need this, 3 or 4 rotor up front. Keep all the stock seats n trim.

Behold ......

.... The Volvary

Oh, yes. the Swedish tank, of course. You might have heard of the Volvoghini? If not, look it up. The 3 or 4 rotor Revolvo would beat it hands down. :great:

Looking back, why didn't I put a 12A and 5-speed in the Cortina when the opportunity was there? Now, CCR weren't really into modification jobs & cutting away at the little healthy metal that was left didn't appeal to me at the time. Oh, well...

How much tidier would that engine bay look with a 12A in it?  ;)

In fairness ANY engine would be better than what these came out of the factory with! But a "built" 20B to slot in the rear would be nice.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240422/11e7ad6e6ac9a1ca9e8a770c5fbfc60b.jpg)

First car I owned and learnt to drive, well till it fell over on its side and found it had plate glass windows!

I was either 9 or 10 years old at the time  >:D

One of many stylish, but notoriously underpowered sports cars of the 1980s, the Matra Murena should be a  candidate. And has anyone ever tried to combine a Rotary with Variomatic? 🤔 Not sure what the point would be beyond retro-engineering novelty, but you'd be able to go backwards at tremendous speeds!  :))
