Title: Forum Updates
Post by: Casey on January 29, 2024, 11:48:04 AM
Just a warning there might be some disruption/downtime for periods this week as I grapple with updating the forum form its current v2.1.2, through v2.1.3 to the latest v2.1.4.

I can't put this off as there are some major bug and security fixes in the updates.

One thing I will need to do is uninstall the Tapatalk plug-in whilst I do the updates, as it is causing the update emulation to fail. Tapatalk will not function at this point.

I hope to re-install the latest Tapatalk plug-in when I am sure all the updates have completed post-checks successfully and all is stable (and I can do some backups first).

I am aware of the "Major Security Risk" message that some users may be seeing at the top of the screen. I know what is causing it, but I have lost FTP access to the forum since the migration to the new server. I can solve it easily once UK2 sort out my FTP access .

A rather delayed return to this forum update topic.

There were a number of serious forum issues in March/April which were brought about by our website host migrating us to a new platform. It took a while to resolve this (massive thanks to Stewart M!), but I think there are no (major**) gremlins with the forum at the moment.

With things appearing to have been stable for the past few months, I decided to return to the overdue upgrades.

We were on v2.1.2 of the SMF forum software last night and, on testing the update, I got an error report. This morning I managed to resolve the issue causing the error and (appear to) have successfully updated the forum to v2.1.3.

Tapatalk also appears to be working OK**

I am going to leave the forum at that build level for a few weeks, to check if there are any error reports or reports from users of any issues (please report them here, if you spot anything).

**I have become aware that notification messages of new posts have not been working for a while. I have implemented a possible fix, but not yet sure it has been successful. If anyone IS receiving email notifications or Tapatalk notifications, it would be good to know  ;D

Using Mac OS with Firefox. Have had no issues, thankfully, although I guess that's not much help for the troubleshooting... Been on regularly, tho.

Thanks, Yngvar. It does help a little to pin down where the issue might lie.

Great news too - email notifications seem to be FIXED  :13:

I received an email notification you had replied to this topic, first one I've had for quite a while  ;D  :icon_thumleft:

I decided I was on a roll today. Got a lot of stuff done and fixed, so went ahead and installed v2.1.4 of the forum - the LATEST production release (June 2023). It seems to have installed perfectly, but please report any glitches in here!

One notable change is:

QuoteAttachments (UI) Upload User Interface enhancements - The UI used for uploading attachments is now easier to use, and a tad more aesthetic also.

I'm going to try that now - I didn't like the attachments process in the previous forum software version...

Oh wow! The new attachment process is MUCH improved, so much easier, on a PC at least!
