Title: Have you driven your rotary in 2024 yet?
Post by: Casey on January 09, 2024, 07:23:20 PM
It was a sunny day here; cold, but the main roads were dry. My FB hasn't been out of the garage for over 6 weeks so thought it was time for a run out.

Checked fluid levels and tyres - all good. Fired up 2nd crank, which is normal when I've left her standing for over 10 days or more. Despite a few pumps of the accelerator and then full choke, it's always the same. She will always start straight away if used daily.

I did ~25 miles with a smile on my face. No issues, apart from low sun and a film on the outside of the windscreen reducing visibility a little - easily solved  :D. I was in some traffic on a dual carriageway at one stage, in the overtaking lane behind another car and a van behind me, far too close to my bumper. The car in front pulled over, so I dropped a gear and floored the gas. I think the van was surprised as I left it in the distance ;D

Have you driven your rotary on the road yet in 2024?

Well, there's this white stuff on the ground up here (see below). And Noriaki has no snow tyres (yet)...   ;)
(Yep, that FB is fab, Casey. Good to hear it's getting some exercise)

It's not ideal Wayne, but the roads were mostly dry - although one minor road had a  few streams running across the tarmac!

I don't like to leave the car unused for more than a month if possible, so was eager after a 6+ week layup to get her moving. Experience shows things have a tendency to seize up if not operated regularly. I also miss the fun of driving her!

Great trip to Clevedon Cars and Coffee yesterday.  Good to meet up with the owner of this lovely green RX-3 as well. Great event on 2nd Saturday of the month 10-12:30 for anyone in Bristol area.

FB is going well now I have fitted newly rebuilt original carb back on it. Previous vacuum leak I could not find after rebuild was diagnosed as a very small gap on secondary butterfly which was solved by careful bending of the actuating rod to adjust. This was the first trip after that work was completed late last year. Looking forward to more trips this year.

Glad to hear you've finally sorted the carb issue, David :icon_thumleft:

Great to see you've attended a show already in 2024  :notworthy:

Good to see the car out and about Dave.

I don't know if you had a chat with the owner but until I saw the green RX-3 a few months back up for auction, I never knew they made a GT version.

From memory it came in from Thailand so it must have been a model just for them

Hey Malcolm
That's a fair point
I'm
Not trying to pry , more asking an opinion as I don't know the answer
If there was a bit of grit
Providing it's dry , could you do any damage ?

Yes I did have a chat with him.  He is after some information and is hopefully going to sign up here.  I did pass on your name to him.
