Instead of using the "Quick Reply" which is automatically presented, opt for the "Reply" button at the foot of the message. That gives you an "Attachments and other options" menu with drag and drop as one method to attache photos.

I may have to play around with max file sizes for photos, when I have a moment, as the current limit is a bit low for modern cameras at ~9Mb.

I have noted the reported issue with embedded YouTube videos that throw and error when you try to play them. I can see the problem.

On the previous forum software, the format to embed a YT video was to put the full YT url between the embed YT tags ["youtube"]and["/youtube"]

With the new forum software the "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=" common part of the url is absent/removed. If it's there, an error is generated.

It's quite simple to fix an individual link, by editing to remove the extraneous "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=" between the tags, but we have many hundreds scattered over the forum, so will look to some sort of batch program to make the edits needed.

All NEW YT embeds use the new format, so that is fine.

BTW, on the homepage, at the bottom of the page, you will see this:

MRC Footer.JPG

Under "Forum Stats", last line, there is a link, "View most recent posts"!

It seems the last 2 weeks or so of posts are listed here, so it's a good way of checking you've not missed any new posts!

Is this a major issue with using TapaTalk, or just an irritation, so I can prioritise?

Yep, I can confirm I can see the issue. Some of my posts have gone into Jamie's topic in the wrong order too. Like yours, they have gone into the past.

The forum is fine. It seems as though the synchronisation with Tapatalk is up the creek. That might take some sorting out. I can only suggest in the meantime to access the forum directly, not via Tapatalk. The new forum works much better on mobile devices.

Jon, can you confirm?

Maybe, given the forum upgrade, the sync of posts by Tapatalk had to be refreshed and this has take  a while to sync correctly. We have a lot of posts on here since 2003!!

I don't know exactly how Tapatalk works, but I think it holds a mirror copy of our forum. It's possible that the forum upgrade caused a wobbly with the sync between their copy and our updated live forum. It seems Tapatalk is gradually resyncing and issues are getting resolved?

Or am I being too hopeful  ;)

Thanks for pointing this out Brett.

I hope I have now fixed this. I have checked everything on my PC and Android phone and the secure (SSL, https://) version of the forum is now functional and all forum requests should be redirected to this SSL version for security reasons.

Please post here if there are still issues.

Apologies, it seems we have a problem with forum access via TapaTalk  :(

The error is, "Network error, please try again later (get_config)"

Unfortunately, the TapaTalk have not yet released a "Stable" version of their plugin for the latest version of the forum software we are now using (v2.1.2). We have to use a "Beta" release, so that may be the reason for the problem.

I'll take a deeper look tomorrow. I'm knackered after driving 7 hours to a funeral and back today (lost an old work colleague  :( )

I have raised the issue of our Tapatalk access problem on the Tapatalk user forum, as I can't find a solution.

I have a feeling it is connected to recently securing our forum from malicious agents by forcing users to login via SSL/https access only. I have a hunch that Tapatalk has a problem with the SSL certificate we are using, even though it is valid and UK2 confirm it is correctly installed.

I await a response....

In theory that shouldn't make a difference - I suspect they have a really long TTL when it comes to site changes. (Or they have a really slow manual process)

Ah, it seems the emoji ("MORE") pop-up window on this new version works slightly differently to the previous one. Clive reported that he could not close the pop-up window that appears with the "MORE" emojis button. I must admit I missed it at first, but if you scroll down to the bottom of the emojis in the pop-up window, you will see a "CLOSE" button  :icon_thumleft:

Welcome back Matt - sorry about the Tapatalk issues. I think they are largely resolved now, except for an occasional (random?) "out of sequence" posting, when viewed on Tapatalk (fine when viewed on the forum)

I have this reply from Tapatalk support:

QuotePosts going out of order is not a known issue.
The apps team is asking, if this happens again, to not edit the posts so that they can see the issue in its original version.
Please let me know with an example should it happen again.

Thanks

Just when the forum is operating smoothly (I think) and Tapatalk is behaving itself, I've discovered there are updates to be installed to the forum (v2.1.2 to v2.1.3) AND the Tapatalk plugin requires updating (v5.1.3 to v 5.1.4).

As things are, apparently, stable, I will postpone both updates until the New Year as, if the updates cause issues, I won't have time to fix them over the festive period.

I'll give forum users notice when I intend to carry out the updates.....

Thanks Matt!

Drat, I just did a test forum update and an error occurred - only one single error in the 88 steps involved in the update though.

I looked on the SMF support site and I'm not the only one with the same error. It is caused by a rather sneaky addition of a single line of code by TAPATALK in a SMF file. This caused the SMF automatic update process to throw the error as the original file did not pass a check on what was expected, having been altered.

Now I know the reason for the error, I can work around it, but will still leave it until early in the New Year, in case something unforeseen occurs  ;)
