Who is on the mrc stand or are we all mixed up on the rx8oc stand ?

Hi Rich. If you booked on the MRC stand then you'll be on the MRC stand. If you booked with the RX-8 OC stand code then you'll be on that stand. We have requested, and are expecting, all rotary stands to be located next to each other at the venue - in the main paddock.

Hi Rich. Sorry, on re-reading my reply it looks a bit terse. I was away from home and didn't have the chance to check bookings at the time.

I now see that you, I, Dave Collins and brad-wil are planning to bring RX-7 FB's and are all booked on the RX-8 OC stand. I will probably need to park on the RX-8 OC stand for logistics (as part of their events team), but I wonder if it would make for a better display to have the 3 other FB's on the MRC stand? If all parties agreed, I'm sure the team at Combe can move the bookings, if we let them know. As you say, the FB's will get lost on an RX-8 OC stand which currently looks to have 60+ RX-8's.

So far on the MRC stand I think we have:

Clive (RX-4)
Jamie R (maybe Rotus!)
boosted (RX-7 FD)

There are at least two other FB owners on rx7fb.com who have yet to book and I have recommended they put their cars on the MRC stand (and passed them the MRC stand booking code).

There's going to be a heritage setand and  RX8 club / Combe asked me to book the RX-4 through them so they know how many are attending.

Very poor turnout on our side at the moment but hopefully a mail shot will lure many of our wonderful Mazdarotaryclub cars to come along.   

I will contact Castle Combe and get my booking moved across to the MRC stand.  Only booked on there as it was before MRC had a stand.

I contacted Castle Combe via web chat and they cancelled my first booking and sent a voucher code for £20 so I could rebook onto MRC stand.

All worked without a hitch.

For anyone that has already booked using the RX-8 OC stand code and wishes to be on the MRC stand, don't worry. As long as I'm aware of this situation, I am working with the RX-8 OC guys to "redirect" and plan appropriate space to on the MRC Stand (which will be adjacent to the RX-8 OC stand area).

I know Dave Collins has changed his stand allocation over  :icon_thumleft:

Can everyone who intends to attend this event please, if not already done so, pay for their place by Sunday 8 May.

This event is proving hugely popular for rotary owners and the prime space allocated to us is getting near to capacity with ~100 cars provisionally booked!!

After 8 May, the RX-8 OC, who are liaising with the JDM Combe team, will assess the situation.

It is possible NO FURTHER PLACES will be available after that date if all space is taken.

Is there anything I must do Malcolm regarding Stand Booking?   Or shall I leave in your/Mazda Heritage capable hands & just "Turn Up" on the day? ;)

Nothing needed at this point, Pete. Hopefully, it will be a simple matter, nearer the day, of letting know you know roughly what time to arrive, what entrance to use and where the stand is located. We are finalising the stands now with the team at JDM Combe and have provisionally agreed everything. Just need to double check before we announce everything. Looks like about 100 cars across all the rotary stands!

Kevin (threesevens onrx7fb.com) has just paid up for a place on our stand. He'll be bringing his 1982 Elford, which is pretty much factory fresh and with only around 6k miles on the clock!

The cut-off date for ticket applications is 9am this Wednesday. The team at Combe will then know the size of each club stand and will layout the club stand spaces around the circuit accordingly, then send out the tickets and stand passes to match the plan. I reckon we should have tickets/passes landing on doormats in 6-10 days.

The RX-8 OC are now working on which cars can be included in the 12.45pm (subject to confirmation) parade lap of 68 cars (limit imposed by JDM Combe). We have ~140 cars at the show, so not everyone can go out in the parade. The RX-8 OC have decided (fairly, in my opinion) that any cars doing a track session will not be eligible for the parade lap.

There are a dozen timeline cars, including those marked below, which will take priority at the head of the parade and the RX-8 OC would like as many as those as possible to go out. So, we have possibily for the parade:

Due to JDM Combe restricting us to 68 places on the parade lap, we have a dilemma on how to get a possible 140 cars out there. The RX-8 OC have taken the decision that any car that is doing a track session should be excluded from the parade lap to allow as may owners as possible to drive around the track at the event. Even excluding track session cars, we still appear to be over-subscribed and will have to disappoint some owners as we have been too successful with the numbers this year  :)

Clive, I assume you are aware that, as at previous JDM Combe events, your tow car and trailer will have to be parked in the trailer park once your race car is parked up? Is Steve driving your RX-4 to the event?

Yes Steve will bring the RX-4.
Not going on track with the race car, but can do the parade with it if required

Ah, that's different then Clive. The JDM Combe list shows you have bought a track session? If you are not going out on a track session then there ought to be a place for your race car in the parade lap.

Provisionally, the RX-8 OC have allocated up to10 spaces in the parade to MRC and that doesn't include the timeline cars from Kees, Kevin and Pete.

MRC stand passes should also be BLUE - so use the BLUE entry gate - and the stand is F24-F25, on grass, just a few yards inside the entrance gate via a tarmac road.

F24-25, MRC, almost dead centre of diagram.

E1-10, F23 and G2 will be the RX-8 OC

G3-G5 will be FDOC

F26 will be RX-8 Familia (Facebook group)

So all the Rotary clubs straddle one of the main thoroughfares in the paddock, near the Strawford Centre.

Don't think we could be located much better than that!

I seem to remember a big sign at some stage near the fire up lane on a track day saying No Slicks
Might be an idea to give the track a call

My mate cut grooves in his btcc slicks, about 5 over the whole tyre. He got on track but i think very lucky. They spotted it too.

Damn, Brexit affects us in sooooo, many ways now.

Kees is going to bring his wonderful Cosmo over for the event from the Netherlands and since Rotorstock 2 and has always brought his other Rotary friends across with him, but not now!

I asked him if he was bringing any other cars and here is the reply!

Unfortunately there are no other members to come over this weekend. And we can only take one car with us because of high prices for additional trailers.

Not going to get any better either, next you we will need to apply and pay for a visa to go anywhere into Europe.

Yep, in the "olden days" I would probably have made it over, too. But the combo of lingering pandemic, airport chaos, travel bureaucracy (plus passenger locator forms  :angryfire:) and sold-out ferries is just too much. Even if I technically speaking could find the time. Wish you a fabulous week end at Combe and hope to join you next time, foiks! Keep those rotaries whirring!  :great:

Some last minute reminders about Saturday.

• I would suggest you aim to arrive 7.30-8.00am, although a little earlier is OK. Later and there is a risk of queues on the approach roads
• Enter via the BLUE gate and go straight on (unless the marshals direct you to turn right). Turning left is a no-no! See map below
• Head for stand numbers F24-F25 if you are on the MRC stand and organise the parking on there however you like
• Head for E7-E9 if your car is part of the heritage timeline
• There will be RX-8 OC parking marshals to assist and they may ask for your name to check you off an attendee list
  
• From about 7.30am there will be a check-in desk operating one of 2 large RX-8 OC gazebos in the E8-E9 area
  
  The Check-in desk will issue you with:
  - a green wristband if you are not in the parade
  - a red wristband if you are in the parade
  - additional green wristbands for your guests who came with you
  - Parade lap drivers will also receive a JDM Combe waiver form to complete and some further instructions about the timing and operation of the ~2 circuit laps, in two lanes of 34 cars each lane
  


• 
  A green or red wristband will entitle everyone to bacon rolls for breakfast, hot/cold drinks and other refreshments FOC. No band, no refreshments. This will help the volunteer chefs, who will not know many of you by sight.
• If you enjoyed the refreshments, a donation, however small, via paypal to shop@rx8ownersclub.co.uk would be gratefully received.

If there are any questions, post them up. I will be leaving home on Friday at ~10.30am for a leisurely trip, non-motorway, down to Chippenham. I won't be able to access the forum on the trip, but will check this topic when I arrive in the afternoon.

Theres so much covid about guys, i know 5 people with it. Im lucky to have hols for this event as my workmate got from his wife who went to Glastonbury. My boss was gonna cancel my hols. But other workmate said hes happy to be on own.
So no hugs from me.

At the check-in desk you will get a JDM Conbe form to complete, which driver and passengers have to sign and hand over to marshals in the assembly area.

No requirement for helmet on parade lap, nor long sleeves or long trousers, I am told. I'll be in shorts and T in this heat!

Well, I cleaned my RX-7 FB inside and out, went for a short run and topped off fuel, then packed it yesterday,  ready for the long trip down to Chippenham today.

I went to back it out of garage today and there was a crunch as I selected reverse. The clutch bite point in now right on the deck! Suspect slave cylinder is failing.....

No time to sort it, quick clean of RX-8, transfer all the stand stuff over and have driven it down to Chippenham. Arrived about 45 mins ago, to find the rotaries are already herding in the car park!

Oh thats a shame mate,   maybe a few pumps wouldve sorted it but with a long journey ahead the right thing todo. I expect the geese will fly over our house tonight or morning and ill have omelette all over my shiny shiny car.

Thanks to Kees for bringing what I can only describe as the "holy grail" to the show and for bringing my LHD dashboard. That 110 Cosmo is summat else, from an era where budding young engineers designed from the heart and not a computer.

Thank you Jon for an opportunity to drive your FD, as brutal as that clutch it, it's very addictive. That car makes more funny noises than "clunk" from "dick dastardly catch the pigeon"

Big shout to Wayne, who was brave enough to let me loose in his race car, which Ive never drove, and never done a track day. It wasn't perfect by a long stretch, but managed to retain some track etiquette and let a very quick civic past and another 8 which felt like he had more experience. Past a few which was good. Messed around changing gear twice around camp corner praying to god I was selecting 5th and not 3rd, lost loads of time. But great fun and I kept it on the black stuff.

However, biggest thanks goes to Malcolm and the rest of the team involved. Malcolm was clearly a swan. Looking graceful on the surface but paddling underneath like .....well can't say but..... the show went seamlessly perfect or did from my perspective. Never seen so many rotarys in one place at one time. Even the small details with the info boards by each car made it look like an outdoor museum with all the time warp cars to the latest R3 You certainly put the Rotary on the map!

Wanted to speak to more people on the day, but so much to see n do. Rich nz yellow fb certainly got a few of us twitching and pining for an fb

Thanks for the positive comments guys. This germ of an idea started waaay back in around Sept 2021, when Dan, one of the RX-8 OC committee, mentioned it was the 55th Anniversary and that led to the idea of doing something special at JDM Combe events team, even before the date was announced! Late in 2021 we contacted Mazda UK and the JDM Combe. Many months of planning then ensued, liaising with other clubs and individuals to make this event happen.

So, I am so pleased, and, lets be honest, relieved that it went pretty smoothly and everyone seemed to be having a good day.

I spent most of my time walking around and chatting to as many people as I could. Some of you will know I love to take pictures at these events, but deliberately left my camera at home, to have more time to get around all the stands. However, the day seemed to go so fast that I now realise I still didn't manage to catch everyone, and some conversations where briefer than I would have wished. My apologies to those people I didn't manage to see, or had to dash off prematurely to deal with some organisational issues.

The parade lap was certainly a highlight for me. From my position in the middle of the pack, I had a brilliant view of cars forwards and in the rear view mirror, as well as some lovely FD's to my right.

Another highlight was the timeline display, with a glorious collection of 55 years of Mazda rotary heritage.

I'm suffering today a little, as I managed to tweak my back yesterday morning and the 3.5 hour journey home didn't help. It'll be fine in 24  hours or so.

A sincere and huge thankyou to everyone who supported this event, to make it what it became. The sight of the combined rotary club stands will live long in the memory. I think our presence make an impact on the visiting crowds which, to me though, didn't seem anywhere near as big as in previous years?

As Clive has said, special thanks to Kees, along with his wife Laura, who left their home in Holland at midnight on Friday to catch the Eurotunnel train to transport his very special Cosmo 110s to the show, arriving spot on time  :notworthy:

Finally, I was chuffed to learn the RX-8 OC had won "Club of the Show" award. Pic to follow....

I didnt take too many pics this year, got side tracked by 3 ice creams, cheeseburger and cheesey chips and a lovely bacon bap from RX8OC stand, I have no idea who the lovely lady was on the frying pan, but she said something which made my controversial tourettes start but i held back before i embarrased her and myself, I was so proud.  :13:

I would just like say thankyou to everyone in the MRC who supported this event bringing their cars, and Malcolm for keeping you up to date, and boy do you have some beautiful and rare cars. Sorry about the rocky surface for some of Timeline cars hopefully no paint chips occurred!
There was talk of organising a "weekend gathering" next year to which would not actually be a show so watch keep an eye out for news!

Thank you to all  those involved with the organisation from the various Clubs/Forums.   It ran like clockwork.   It was a honour to be part of the Rotary fraternity & great to see the different models together.   The interest from the general community was amazing & opened their eyes to the amount of different RE cars.

Thanks to the Gent who spent hours explaining the workings of the engine on the demo parts.   At 1 point there was a Queue of about 10-12 people waiting to have a go!   I had to Intervene at 1 point between 2 chaps having a heated debate on how it worked as I thought it was about to get violent  :violent1:, it would have helped if they took notice of the yellow arrow & turned the E shaft the correct way.

I brought my Brother in law along, he had never been to (or involved with) car shows/clubs & was amazed how friendly we all were & the distances we travelled yet all seem to know each other.

By far the best event I have been to :occasion14:
