Title: Rx8 gear box bell housings
Post by: Grant Monkhouse on November 10, 2020, 10:29:00 PM
Are the bell housings on the 5 speeds and the 6 speeds the exact same? Size and bolt pattern obviously.

Am I right in saying the 6 speed has a bigger clutch?

yes they are the same size and bolt pattern, the clutches are different on the high and low power rx8 models but the flywheels are the reason and can be interchanged I dont know why Mazda did that except the low power is slightly heavier flywheel.
The high power 6 speed flywheel is compatible with the rx7 albeit slightly lighter.
Clutch lave cylinder gets in the way of all earlier back plates where the oil filter housing goes but can be made to work using an RX8 modded oil filter housing. Its a bit of a faff.

Bolt pattern to engine is the same
For example , I put a 5 speed box on 231 without changing clutch . They are different t somehow tho

I suspect he's trying to convert an FD box to a push type clutch, so he will need a 192 bellhousing
