Title: Transverse fitment
Post by: baloo on November 05, 2020, 07:04:07 PM
thinking ahead to a project further down the line  ::)   has the rx8/7  engine been installed with a transverse gearbox anywhere ?
i can see the exhaust manifold might want to use the same space in the universe as the one drive shaft but sure i can get round that
anyone got any picture ?

i did think about this when i had the engine out of my mazda 3...sizewise it was almost the same but the exhaust issue you mentioned plus how to get the big flywheel in a smaller bellhousing led me to drop the idea....although for a man of your talent???

Hi Pete
thanks for those links i just a quick look  very interesting,   MR2  box seems the way to go then   i have one of them in the shed, any one got a dead rx8 engine kicking around they want to sell ?    drive shaft does look close to the exhaust ports

but i would imagine you could rotate the engine relative to the gearbox so the exhaust ports come up away from the drive shaft   cant see much in the engine that would care about that ?

i still have a couple of road legal buggies  that might take an rx8 engine in the back,  this one has a nissan micra engine in it but  needs a bit more get up and go
