Title: Shipping mazda capella 70 from Australia
Post by: crisdo98 on September 08, 2020, 09:57:05 PM
Hi, I'm hoping I can get some advice from fellow rotor heads who may have experienced shipping cars from outside the UK. I have a 70 Capella coupe (rolling shell) that I've owned since a kid and I'd like to now ship it to the UK so I can restore it here.

I have filled in heaps of forms online and so far I have received quite a few quotes that range from around £2000 port to port. I'd like to know if this is a fair price and whether there are cheaper ways to get a classic into the UK from Oz.

Alternatively I have contacts in Hungary if I can get it there where they would restore the panels/paint so that is option 2. Option 1 being get it here, put an engine in it, get it on the road and drive it to Europe to get it restored.

Added pics of my poor girl. She hasn't run since around 1990 when it was taken off the road for 'breaking traction' in front of the police in a plume of smoke dumped from the engine. It's since been pillaged by family for their cars at the time so I'm left with most parts, excluding anything in the engine bay.

Thanks in advance.
Chris

First up  :welcome:

Going to be great to get an RX-2 on our shores :great:

Never imported anything but I am told that over 20years old you wont have to pay the 20% vat, so its maybe worth checking the same applies on entry into Hungary .

Are you going back to stock or modding with a different engine ect

Hey Clive,

Thanks for the warm welcome! Long time visitor, first time caller ;)

She started with a 1600 so she won't be going original. Interior to stay stock bar steering wheel and driving seat. She had a 12a then 13b and preferred the extra torque of the larger engine and always wanted it bridged but we'll see.

I never see any Capellas, 2 or 4 doors.. did they never come here?

We never had that as a name but the cars were designated RX-2 for the Rotary version and a 616 for the piston version of the shape of car you have.

As for shipping, I was told yesterday that all the info and pricing you need can be found on the internet.

Thanks Clive. Yeah, I noticed it was called 616 in Europe. Regarding shipping, it is strange that I push a car into a container and pay £2, or pack a 'car sized' object into a crate and pay much less. I'll keep looking online.

I have used these guys to ship a car from UK to Cyprus. which cost 950 GBP in 2017 excluding recieving port agent fees.
They might be worth a try .
