Title: Se7ens Day on the 11th
Post by: Jamie R on July 12, 2020, 06:33:20 AM
Not sure where to post these, so here is as good as anywhere (I think)

Hectic week for poor Jesse (HobbaWobba); had a late night in my shed playing with the lathe machining solid spacers for his new LSD.

Friday night myself, Jesse and (James GT) were under the car fitting the new back axle. Its at this point I find out theres a meet the next day, ( I thought it was Sunday for some reason.....)

Saturday morning I rock up at Jesses at 7.30ish to find his beloved STILL up on axle stands, hmmmmm, odds n sods to finish. Man if this guy was anymore laid back he'd be horizontal.

My first experience of this FB machine. Its mad!! natural patina, scars, welded patches, paint on the windows, galvanised chain holding the silencer in check, rattly sunroof, my electric window switch controls his window and vice versa. A nicely installed 13B turbo from an FC and a turbo the size of a nuclear reactor.

Watching him wrestle the manual steering box on the forecourt adds to the FB charm, for me watching him anyway, trying to turn with fat semi slicks.

A little clunk from the axle as the LSD does its thing and we're off, its sounds brutal, its the first trip since Sept of last year, so he aint going mad, however a subtle "Go on Jesse" from me and the note changes and the scenery blurrs green from a reported 400+ ponies, and I wouldnt disagree.

My experience can only be one of how i think virgin astronauts feel on lift off, sat in this rattling metal box, and then it just goes....... and he didnt go full on redline.

Arrived at 12 noon, All the £££££££ FBs were parked up, saw two FBs rock up. James GT comparitively very clean and straight series 3. The confused faces soon changed to a grin when they looked at the turbo on Jesses. A few burnouts from the attendees and James, who pretty much did the best one from the only non turbo on left at the meet, alternating wheels on his open diff'ed axle, held nicely and repeatedly revved it whilst in control. Put a lot of the ££££ cars to shame.

Saw Pete (RE5) there and his 2 fine examples.  :13: Pete they are cleaner than when they left the factory.

Nice turn out of close to 30 cars, and a convoy from Langport to Cheddar Gorge. Jesses car decided to have a moment on one part of a very twisty and very steep part. It just wasnt playing, a 10 minute set back what must have felt like 3 hours for Jesse. Me directing traffic around him, blind bends, cyclists, pedestrians, rock climbers, Jesse rolling backwards down what looks like a run up to a ski jump to a safe place.

His FB had a little siesta, I gave the key a try and we're back in business. Im putting it down to either fuel starvation going 10mph up a mountain face or lugging my lardy stature up the hill.

Great day tho, im not going to get all hippy and spiritual but its great to be part of what is a worldwide event of Sevens day.

Enjoy the pics.

Not only just the only fb and fc, but certainly the cleanest examples of a 7s there. You should be extremely proud

We were in a bit of a awkward situation Clive as it was organised by a FD owner on his own property.   Space was limited  because of the present rules regarding gatherings/proximity it was by invitation only.   He is hoping to host again next year when things should be different.

Awesome to see you again aye, Pete! Sorry I didn't chat too much. I was pretty exhausted from a few 2am nights trying to get my LSD set up in time for the meet hahaha. What a great day though! Nice burgers too ;D

Good to your car coming in the gate, thought I was going to be the only FB.   The work you have done on her is amazing........& to get the rear axle & diff fitted in the last 12 hours complete with cotton wool damper then drive a couple hundred miles takes balls :notworthy:
What is the next  project on the car?

Hahaha we can't let you down bro! :13: Thanks aye! Yeah, that was a very tough few days leading up to the event. 2am evenings setting my diff up and driving to multiple different towns in one evening to use friends tools. Then Jamie and James both helping out the night before with installing the axle back on the car! Much appreciated to all for helping. I was in a lot of physical pain from it all and mentally drained :laughing6:. Was outside on the drivevway at 6am on the day so I could try and finish it haha.

Next plan? Drive it until the weather says no! Not 100% sure what is next in line in terms of mods. Some ideas I have are ducting, larger front brakes and polybush front end (rear already done). I also have a bit of welding to do and buy some more colour matched paint. I ran out when I welded the spoiler holes shut hahah. Steering rack conversion is also on the list, but that one will take a lot of planning
