Good morning Folks
I’m planning on becoming resident in Spain in the new year. Which means I have to take the vert with me or sell her. I prefer the first option

In order to import the car, I will need to adjust the headlights for driving on the right. I know the current lights were imported from the USA by a previous owner. Does anyone know if the fc lights are easily adjusted or will I need to order a LHD set of lamps?

Old Toyota Hiace lights work in FD, so I reckon that they will fit FC too. And they are cheap

Thanks Japi
Will look into them if I can’t adjust mine

Oh, I forgot to say that I mean like really old, '90 version...

To my knowledge, you cant adjust them. Light pattern is completely different
No problem mate.

I went through this on a jap import bike and my fd trying to get an mot.
If fc uses h4 lamp then the left kicker comes from the h4 lamp not the fc lenses. So when you see cars with the tape over lenses this is cancelling out the left beam kicker and stops you dazzling other uses when driving on the wrong side...maybe just a case of getting continental h4 lamps with kicker on right.
The tape over lens makes the beam flat.

That’s interesting, I got a set of Spanish H4 in my Fiesta’s boot. I will bring them back to the uk and check them against what I have in the vert

Maybe bum steer..but my import bike had wrong h4s in. Swapped to uk 1s through mot.

I will certainly take a look! I’m sure they’re American lamps so probably are meant for a LHD car anyway
Thanks

Having taken many RHD cars to the continent, On the EU equivalent to the MOT the headlights have always been checked to ensure they were for LHD vehicles, the lense that deflects the beam is in the glass or on modern cars the reflector, I have never had to change Bulbs?.
Yes i agree with a h7 or halogen or hid but the old h4 lamp the beam is generated by the lamp not the lens. I learnt the hard way.
Not saying the fc has h4 i dont know but pretty much every car 80s 90s had h4s fitted just something to investigate.

I just done some reading up..i think im wrong...the bike i had was a Spanish Suzuki GSXR..it wouldnt pass a uk test had no left kicker and 2 h7 lamps init...i converted to h4...and it passed...
My fd had aftermarket lights no pop up halogen h7s no beam pattern atall.basically driving lamps.
From what ive read the lens as re5 says the lens converts the beam for left or right kick. Soz for any confusion. I was pretty sure the h4 created the beam but according to what i just read im wrong.....

I have just changed my lights on my FC, (the reflective material was turning brown), I could of purchased new (MRIIs the same) with the lense in the glass, but instead I upgraded to the new version with the lense in the reflector, WOW 40% better with same H4s. The Tape for EU driving blocks the part of the beam that would dazzle on coming traffic & is only for short term use & not acceptable for TUV testing etc. I have Used the same H4 bulbs in both L/RHD vehicles with no detrimental effect.
Just read the above post :occasion14:
Thanks both for your advice. I’m back in the U.K. next week so will have a closer look at what’s fitted. Guess I will have to buy new lamps when I get her over to Spain
Thanks again
Chris

If the lenses you have were "I know the current lights were imported from the USA by a previous owner" then they should be for LHD vehicles?
I have a set of these to go into my FC

They are the same as I fitted recently....will need re-adjusting as reflect different than stock....put plenty of releasing fluid on the small screws on stainless surround before attempting to undo :D
Thanks again guys
I have found a company on the Costa Blanca who can supply and install a European set. So will go with them once the car is in Spain
Cheers Chris

Has anyone ever fitted Halfords beam deflectors to an FC?
I’m sat in Portsmouth waiting for the boat with a set but no idea where to position them on the head lamps. Older cars aren’t covered
Any guidance would be great
Thanks Chris

On older headlights there is normally a triangular type shape that needs to be covered, hold over & you will see it stops the beam that would shine into oncoming traffic.
That makes sense, I will check it out
Many thanks

Thanks for all your help guys,
I managed to fit the deflectors correctly in the end. The bottom right hand corner of the reflector needed to be covered to prevent dazzling on coming traffic. I will take a photo when I remember, just in case anyone else should ask the question

By the way, I disembarked the ferry in Bilbao yesterday afternoon, then drove the old girl non stop, apart from 2 petrol stops, down to Valencia. 435 mile run. Add this to Tuesdays 320 mile run down to Portsmouth. I have had a great 750 mile road trip.
Real shame I got up to the rain this morning, so the roof has to stay up until tomorrow

Many thanks for the picture.
Pleased all is well.
p.s. must be something about Rotarys I have owned, your off to Spain with one, my long term owned yellow FD went off to Greece and another to Sweden-------poor things obviously want to get as far away as possible ;D ;D
Thanks Clive,
I would say it’s to escape the winter roads with all that salt. But no idea about Sweden, guess you couldn’t get on the roads for snow

Hi folks
Just starting the import process and I have been asked for an EU conformity certificate!
Anyone have one for t2 vert? Not sure if they are generic or car specific
Thanks Chris
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
EU conformity certificate? What is that??
Anyhoo, I have -91 T2 Vert, LHD, I recon its somewhat Eurospec, cause it was sold to Germany when new...
I’m being told it is a certificate which confirms the vehicle technical data like emissions etc. Apparently Mazda can provide it for a few hundred Euros.
The Spanish government use this information to decide the import tax. I got a feeling I will be in the top tax bracket
I’m tempted to take the car back to the uk and sell her there.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oh, I think its called CE marking, or something like that sertificate....
Ill check and try to find if I have paper like that in my car...
Just curious, if you sell it, how much would you ask for it?
Lähetetty minun E2303 laitteesta Tapatalkilla
No idea what it’s worth these days.
The roof has started to go above the pockets and there is a patch of rust bubbling on the wheel arch. So would need to factor that in.
Probably just put it on Ebay and ask for offers.

Btw, there shouldnt be import tax because its within EU. Any tax that you might have to pay is difference between UK tax and Spains tax, cause that car has allready paid tax when it came to EU

I am not an expert but check carefully you really do
need the certificate of Conformity for a vehicle of the age of yours. I think they do not usually apply after ten years - for classics/older cars - here in the UK. We are (temporarily at least) supposed to be still using the same rules as the rest of Europe! I recently imported a motorcycle and found the online information and the advice received direct from HMRC staff hugely confusing and sometimes just wrong. The ferry company'd freight department answered my questions in plain English and were right on all counts. In the absence of anything else - an aggregate market valuation for an FC RX7 should not be difficult to substantiate if Spanish customs need a benchmark to calculate import tax?
Thanks for the advice.
I think you are correct but the Spanish government likes to take as much tax as they can.
It should be completely free from import tax as the car is my personal possession which I’m moving to Spain at the same time I apply for tax residency. However I have just been informed that proving this is the problem. There is no recognised paperwork in this area, so they tend to tax you anyway

Just got one idea. Contact this gent, Jason Holland @ koskinimport.com. He is a brit living in Finland. He has imported cars around europe and might be able to give you some tips

Yesterday I went thru all of my cars paperwork that I could find. Unfortunately found nothing that could help you. Sorry
Thanks for taking the time to go through your paperwork japi. I Dre a blank looking through mine also. I am taking the car to an expert next week who thinks he can produce the required paperwork from the car serial numbers. I will let you know how I get on.
Thanks for the web link Kevlar. I will have a read
Thanks both

Yep, I went thru everything, even my cars previous owner looked at his papers...

Sorry... Hopefully that gent can help you

Dose anyone know what the original horsepower was for the vert? My insurance company is after more details thanks
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For the S5 I have heard it was 205BHP (UK Model), but I have also heard 210 & 200!
Confusing isn’t it. I found this on the net which is different again. Think I will give them the lowest figures I can find
