Title: Under 17 Car Club "Magic Day" - willing participants with interesting Rotaries
Post by: seanp on April 27, 2018, 10:45:44 AM
Hi folks,

My son (now 12 YO, coming on 13) has joined the Under 17 Car Club - and is learning to drive (since last year actually)!  ;D
See below for more information about the club and https://under17-carclub.co.uk/.

On July 1st this year the U17CC are holding a "Magic Day" at Castle Combe, which is a charity event in which members have the chance to experience many different kinds of vehicles.
I will be taking my Mazda RX-8 R3.

Would any members here be interested in taking along any other interesting Rotaries and giving demo drives (or even letting a trusted Grade 2 or above child member drive!)?

The only requirement is that the vehicle is road legal - and for members to drive preferably 4 seats with a manual handbrake.
However, I am sure they would also welcome some static displays of race prepped vehicles :)

Please PM me or respond here if you are interested & describe what you have available.

More about the U17CC
The U17CC teaches youngsters to drive to a very high standard, such that by the time they are eligible for the DVSA test, they usually require only a few on the road lessons and generally pass first time. Many go on to also take the Advanced Driving Test with IAM RoadSmart or RoSPA.
Statistics show that those who have passed through the club are significantly less likely to be involved in RTAs in those early years which are the highest risk group.

The driving is undertaken on private grounds such as airfields and racing circuits.  The child is the member of the club and usually their parent or guardian are the associate member, and the associate undertakes most of the tutoring with the member driving. Every 3rd visit, they undertake an Instructed drive with an official instructor - who scores them towards their next grading and gives advice on the next things to be taught.

The venues are typically laid out with cones to include with two direction traffic, roundabouts, junctions & even 2 and 3 lane motorways with slip-roads. Often there are manauvring areas for practising slaloms (forwards and reverse), parallel & reverse parking.

Members start of "ungraded" (in which case they are only allowed in a special "ungraded" area), and proceed through Grades 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and even Grade X and "Advanced Driver" grades; getting progressively more difficult at each stage with more skills required.

The club is run entirely by it's members, associates and teams of volunteers.
