Title: Rebuild options southwest
Post by: JamesP on April 23, 2018, 08:06:07 PM
Hopefully I'll be getting the engine in my rx7 rebuilt soon. I'm just wandering if anyone has suggestions or recommendations on someone to rebuild in the southwest area. I'm from Okehampton, Devon and don't mind travelling a bit too go to a reputable garage/builder. The nearest to me is dragon performance but I'm not sure if there even still doing rotaries anymore. Just thought I'd get some opinions from here, hopefully from people's own experiences before I start contacting anyone.

I'm not sure about Dragon doing rotaries any longer either. Used to see them and their cars at shows frequently up to about 5 years ago, but not seen them since.

I can't think of any rotary engine specialist in the south west. The nearest to you would be Tim White at RX-Motors in Salisbury?

I would not consider anybody other than Tim @ RX, I believe him to be the best!   I used a local recovry guy (Exeter) to pick up a FC from Gorsham area recently & could not fault, I travelled with him in the Truck, I can give you details if required.

I should add that all my dealings with Tim have been great. He's gone out of his way to source some FB parts for me in the past.

Thank you for the replies so far. I have read quite a lot of positive comments on tim @ RX motors so I will probably speak to him about my rebuild.

Does anyone know if there is anyone in the Devon area that could do a compression test for me? Just thinking about checking everything over before I try and get it rebuilt.

How soon do you need it as I am thinking about buying a Tester from the US?

Fairly soon ideally but I know of someone selling one if you'd be interested?

He used to own a garage that worked on rotarys but shut it down last year. He didn't seem very keen on coming out to do one for me as he doesn't work on them anymore.

Thanks for the link but that's the company I've tried and are no longer operating. I can't find anyone in the Devon area at the moment.
