Title: FD driving/handling
Post by: Brett on August 17, 2004, 03:26:17 PM
Bit of an odd thread this, but I know its sorta been touched on here and there before.

My EGi is running about 213Fwhp, its got skinny but sticky rubber and I find it nice and progressive and barring a blow out once its never bitten me. (Yes I know its lardier and has less power than an FD)

I took that R2 out again last night and was surprised at how quickly it was letting go, granted its on old rubber thats gone a bit hard.  By quickly I mean it did\'nt feel particularly progressive, one minute it was fine, next I\'m half way into a drift!

Are Fd\'s prone to \'snapping away\' as it were? Or should I just put it down to the tyres? (new ones going on before I buy it)

Thanks in advance chaps! :)

Cheers,

any recommendations as to what make to go for when I get them replaced? The car is on standard rims.

FD\'s are progressive once setup properly. And most are not!

As for tyres you have a long list and a good debate on them, everyone likes different makes.

I have tried Toyo T1-S, Bridgestone RE-070, S-02 and S-03, Pirelli P-Zero\'s, Conti-Contactsport whatever, Avon ZZ-1\'s, etc etc etc...

I would recommend the Toyo\'s, S-03\'s and the Conti\'s. All gave good feedback, butthe best I would say was the S-03\'s for ultimate grip in dry and WET. ;)

Eagle F1\'s seem to be popular.
Based on conversations I\'ve had with a few people, have just shelled out for Bridgestone Potenza S03\'s all round.
//www.mytyres.co.uk do a handy road test rating system that set the Bridgestones apart, wet or dry, which is why I\'ve gone for them.

if yer not after stupid grip in dry but not so good in wet c/o semi slicks or such like goodyear eagle F1\'s seem to be one of the favs & a bit of a discount available if so desired in the wheels section.....

Thanks guys,

I\'ve told him to fit either the toyos or the bridgestones.  Should be bringing the car home in about 4 weeks!

Bridgestone S-03\'s on my rex now, and my god they\'re good.  Haven\'t pushed it too hard yet, but everything feels much more stable since I put them on and I feel far more confident cornering at reasonable speeds than I did before.

They take a bit longer to scrub in than others, but are well worth it.
