Title: Fitting Boost controller
Post by: spizwalt on September 18, 2017, 07:43:36 PM
hi guys,

so im looking to buy an electronic boost controller for my fc3s turbo 2.

current set up is it has a standard turbo on it, with an aftermarket BOV anttached inbtween the turbo and the top mount intercooler.

confused on how all the vacuum lines work with the solenoids  :L

any help will be amazing as ever :)

Do you have an internal or external waste gate?
Which boost controller?

looking at gizzmo boost controller as i know some one selling one cheap.

so i have the BOV as well as the normal wastegate on the turbo that has the vacuum actuator.

The Solenoid needs to be tapped into the blue hose in the pic below
(http://b.cdnbrm.com/images/products/large/supercharges_and_turbocharges/afe_bladerunner_turbocharger.jpg)

I have always T'ed the controller feed (back of the control unit) into the one of the boost/vac lines that run into the throttlebody
Hope this helps

That's for a manual controller
I was just about to post this:-

Already looked at this. My confusion is the fact I have both, and external waste gate and an internal waste gate so which one do set up the boost controller to control?

And I can't find a diagram of how to patch it in to a system that has both external and internal.

You won't have both, and tbh its gonna be easier to tell you what to do if you take some pics. The bov little hose just connects to the uim or somewhere on the intake after the throttle body.  The wg has two ports. The top port is connected through your boost solenoid to a boost pressure source post turbo. The side port connects to an intake source port throttle body same as bov.

Mate those are all just pics of your bov. The bov had nothing at all to do with boost control as some people don't bother using a bov at all. Your wastegate will be attached to your exhaust manifold and its function is to vent excess exhaust gases away from your turbo thus controlling boost. Your boost controller and soleniod is connected inline to the wastegate.

That blitz bov you have there has nothing to do with the boost control.

that black top hat looking thing in your second pic is the wg and by the looks of it, it has nothing connected to the side port that i can see.

That setup doesn't look right to me.
I really suggest for the sake of your engine you get someone to take a look at your current setup before you start trying to fit the controller.
Where abouts are you?

sorry for delayed response, been super busy and this has been put on the back burned.

this set up worked perfect for a year when the engine was shipped into the uk with this set up and i was dailying it 50 miles to work. so i dont think the set up is wrong. im somerset based.

yes ok so the place to T into is in between actuator that is in picture 2 :) just curious how a bov doesn't control boost pressure because surely ate a certain PSI the intake manifold cause a vacuum to let off boost? so surely if the vacuum is getting to great before the actuator kicks in then on the waste gate the BOV will dump all air from the compressor side of the turbo? please correct me if im wrong.

The bov has nothing to do with boost control.  I don't use a blow off valve at all.  The bov is just a pressure relief valve which is forced closed by positive boost pressure then opens when the pressure is released, ie when you press the clutch to change gear.  This then releases the excess pressure from your intake system usually with a audible whoosh. If you don't have a bov the pressure releases back through your spinning turbo blades causes the ch ch ch ch noise. This has different names such as compressor surge/stall, among many others.

Now for boost control this is what your wastegate is for and these come in internal or external form. Internal usually uses a actuator rod to open and close a flap directing exhaust gasses back away from the turbo once a desired boost is reached. An external wg is welded onto the manifold and can be vented back into the exhaust or vented to air (screamer pipe).

The bov releases pressure from the intake system and opens/closes from intake pressure/vacuum.
The wastegate directs exhaust gasses to/ from the turbo and is controlled by a boost controller through a boost solenoid.
