Mazda Rotary Club

Yes, this major European rotary bi-annual event is back again next year, only a short drive from the channel ports :)

The MRC have taken rotary convoys over from the UK to this event for quite a while now. Not only a great weekend of rotaryness, bit a superb social weekend too, with a trip to nearby Amsterdam traditionally on the schedule.

No need to actually put your name down and we will bring you info as we receive it.

We normally go on the shuttle and drive up but some may go this year floating across from Hull, we all meet up at a nice little hotel near the track where the event is held, then either before or after the event and depending on which day the event is held, we have a day out  in Amsterdam to give the trip something for everyone

hotel booked 7th to the morning Monday 10 July theres a page on face book as well confirming the dates, etc etc book the tunnel later next week got a good deal on the hotel £65 approx per night,,, Gov rates lol :D

Last time hotels went really fast. I think in end of January, all hotels in that area were gone. And there is not much hotels in that area..

Just booked hotel , no need to pay now.  But if you are serious about attending then I suggest you make the booking sooner rather than later :(

Looking on booking.com many hotels in Lelystad appear to have sold out for the dates 7th to 10th July, maybe there is another event also going on during this time.

There are some other options available but maybe we will not all be together in the same hotels?

Arrrggghhhh - just checked the Apollo and all double rooms are booked for these dates. In fact, it looks like the hotel is booked for most of July. I tried booking.com, expedia and the hotel direct, no joy. Booked a single room at the Apollo as a reserve option as I'm still not sure if I can persuade Gwyn to join me. I have broached the subject though, so maybe with time.....  :)

No sure what to do about booking a double room somewhere as a option, prefer hotel to B&B.......

Arrrrggghhhh again - brain disfunction! I had the date for this in my diary for w/end of 2nd July, which was clear for us. But I hadn't spotted the change of date to the following weekend  :-[

A lot cheaper than the other two that we have reserved.

Just booked the same hotel for Sat thru to Monday check out. That way we can enjoy the full day on Sunday which we did last time (helped with collecting all those Trophy's for MRC  :P).

We've booked the hotel Friday thru' to Sunday. The return Ferry is at 20.30 on Sunday, landing at 8.00 Monday morning. We cannot get Tuesday off work, so we're checking out Sunday.

well I been let down buy another commitment for that time I was off to the 2017 Lemans and had to make a choice as there where other parties involved and I committed to this last year I was honour bound to go with some close Army Mates,.. However one of them has had a long time put off appointment but now has turn into get it done now and a long recovery so we have shelved it to Next year so I am back on again I know you thought you'd got rid of me but ....  now  going which is GREAT Love this show looking forward to going  8) all up for the ferry/tunnel from the south booked accommodation for the day before at folkestone , and the main hotel booking is confirmed so please add me to the list...

Not booked a boat yet, but it will be the Thursday evening sailing from Hull. Jim is coming across too, so that would make a CONVOY  :wee_hee:

We're looking at the same sailing going out Chris, I've booked three nights hotel stay to be on the safe side but realistically work'll dictate heading back on the Sunday evening sailing I think.

Given that between us there'd be enough noise and flames for a dozen cars I'd say yes.

In the current state of tune the FC's spitting and popping nicely on overrun and I know what your's flames like.

The quality of cars in Europe is superb. Far more Gen 1's and Gen II's than we would normally see at a UK show. Plus lots of other Rotary powered vehicles.

Atmosphere is relaxed and very welcoming.

As Chris says, far more Gen 1's and Gen II's  than we see together in the UK

Had to rebook using another web site , I got a deal through expedia.co.uk ,.... for £190.00 ( plus 400 nectar points ) ferry crossing at the same times but these new dates is also cheeper now only £110.00.......see if you can change the ferry and get a little refund ;) try tomorrow as bookings is closed till 07.30 :violent1:

I dare say we'll put together a full plan for meeting up, eating at various places and getting to the varous event locations. Once we've confirmed who's coming we have a few months now to pull it all together, so plenty of time. I suspect the main issue, as with the previous dates, will be for people who want to come along to book a hotel, as there aren't a lot of options in the area. Ferry bookings are less of a priority, although I will book mine soon (same as Clive has suggested, in my case, not for you though  ;)).

Yes, I just checked,  hotels are going really fast. Apollo has some rooms left. And Lange Jammer too. But then, you have to go quote far to get a room. Good thing is that Holland is a small country :)

Yeps, thats sounds like a good plan. Even though we are in different hotel, they are not so far apart. And ofcourse it would be nice to be with this group and spent time together.

Our plan is to see some castles, churches, old towns and museums on Friday and Monday. And Thursday when driving from airport to Hotel. There are some really interesting sightseeing near Lelystad :)

I'm just about still on schedule with the FC to make it, I did a dry fit with a used engine yesterday and still have a few more clearance issues with the intake primarily to resolve, so a few more design tweeks and a day or so printing parts out before hopefully dropping the new engine in next weekend. Chances are It'll be last minute dot com and still be running in and mapping en-route.

Crissy and I are booked on to the same ferry rowing as Malcolm, Clive and Lisa

Ryan and Madisson have also booked the same Ferry crossing.

On a sadder note it turns out DreRX8 has had a booking clash so now can't make it. Though I have my fingers crossed he can sell the weekend to Nadia using his excellent persuasive skin Les and she decides to come with us instead of heading to a wedding for the weekend :(

Good news, Gwyn has decided to accompany me on the trip  :)

This worked well on the Dover-Dunkirk route in 2015, with a group of us en-route to Spa, as we were loaded first and got off first too. Loading ramps at both ends were no issue.

A slight change of plans for me, a intermittent ignition/computer issue I've been fighting for a while has resurfaced and means I'm now going to be taking the car over on a trailer just to be on the safe side. So travelling Dover-Calais and booked on the same crossing as the rest of you outbound but heading back a day earlier.
If all the parts arrive in time it'll be a needless precaution but with the luck I've been having lately something will be missing when everything arrives end of this week.

Have you any plans for a specific meeting place en-route or are you all meeting at Dover?

Sounds a good idea to meet up at/near Dover for those of us on the 11.10am Ferry. Meeting in Dover itself (having tried it in the past) isn't too easy, as there aren't many places people can wait up. Does anyone know of a location we could use?

Best I could see on a search was to use a "Morrisons" Car Park, CT16 2LB, but the entrance isn't at that postcode, it's just around the corner, from the A256, Charlton Green, only 5 mins from the port. If nothing better, we could meet up there at to leave in convoy at 10.15am? There's a handy Cafe in the store too, so might work.

I am looking forward to this. After almost 2 years since breaking my legs I should be able to get in and out of Aston's car without causing a scene every time and since there are no toll booths on the motorway I won't get shoved out the window to pay the tolls... :-)

I am hoping to be able to go and see the nature reserve and the funky statues at some point if the rain stops.

For now I shall just say the evening at the Yacht Club on Saturday evening was excellent; lovely setting, delicious food in great company and the fun of deciphering the menu with "Google Translate" will linger long in my memory:

I thought a short report on this trip was in order  ;)

Four UK Mazda Rotaries have just returned from a memorable trip over to RotaryStock at Lelystad Midland Raceway, Holland, held on Saturday 1st July. Clive, Aston (Arnie_O) and I took our RX-8's and Jim (lennycarloff) took his Time Attack RX-7 FC.

Clive was accompanied by Lisa, Aston took Crissy along and Gwyn came with me. Jim took his son, Thomas, who was accompanied by his girlfriend Emily. We were joined in Lelystad by Kevin (Kev-yorks) and Sharon, plus Jarno (re_japi) and his family, who flew down all the way from Finland! Kevin had planned to bring over his FC, but last minute ECU/electrical gremlins meant he flew over to Holland from the UK and hired a car for the weekend - not rotary though  :eek: ;)

Gwyn and I stayed at a hotel in Ashford, Kent, on Thursday night prior to the trip, to avoid a rush-hour dash to Dover to catch our ferry to Calais at 11.10am on Friday morning. We left our hotel at about 8.30am on Friday and stopped a few miles down the road to top off with Tesco Momentum. I pulled over in the fuel station car park to answer a text from Clive and was startled as someone knocked on my window. It was a Belgian guy who asked if he could take a picture of my car! No problem, and in chatting to him, found out he owned several Mazda rotary cars and was just on his way from Belgium to Goodwood for the "Festival of Speed". He had planned to go to RotaryStock until the date changed, which then clashed with Goodwood. Strange coincidence for our paths to cross, going in opposite directions, as our route would take us via France, via Belgium and on to Holland.

Clive, Aston and I met up in Morrison's in Dover to enable us to drive in convoy to check-in for our P&O ferry. The crossing was smooth and uneventful and the time just flew by. By around 2pm (local time) we were off on our ~240 mile journey to Lelystad. A few stops and plenty of traffic meant we arrived at our hotel, right on the coast in Lelystad about 8.30pm. Kevin, Jarno and Jim had already arrived so we met up for a quick bite to eat and arranged to leavet at 8.30am in the morning to convoy to RotaryStock, about 20 minutes away.

We were amongst the first cars to arrive at the event on Saturday and set up the MRC Gazebo for some cover from the drizzling rain which greeted us.

A very diverse variety of Mazda Rotaries arrived at the event throughout the morning. Everyone I met was incredibly friendly (and spoke excellent English!). I've uploaded some pics of the event below. The day consisted of static displays, slalom and sprint events on the track and a "Show and Shine" competition. Congratulations to Jim and Aston, as Jim took 1st place in both the Slalom and Sprint, with Aston also taking 2nd and 3rd in the two events. A nicely restored Red RX-4, owned by Furb, took the "Show and Shine" award.

The weather improved throughout the day with some sunshine in the late afternoon. It was great to see some rare rotaries, including a large number of Series 1 RX-7 1st Gens, and chatting to a lot of their owners was a delightful way to spend the day.

The time flew by and then it was back to the hotel to change for a meal at a superb restaurant on a marina jetty just a 5 minute walk away. Everyone in our group came along and we had fun with the menus as only Dutch and German version were available and the staff spoke very limited English. "Google Translate" was a hoot, yielding memorable dishes such as "Chicken with Satan Sauce" and "Chicken robbed of its bones". The food was absolutely delicious, and with the floor-to-ceiling windows open we had a lovely view over the marina packed with yachts. It was a truly enjoyable evening, especially as there was still some light at 11pm.

The next day most of our group went to a local car show, in format very much like the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but as we were near to Amsterdam, Gwyn and I took the opportunity to revisit the city we'd last seen in the 1980's. We took the train from Lelystad, the journey taking about an hour, arriving at Amsterdam Centraal about noon.

Incredibly, just as we were walking out of the station I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Kevin and Sharon! They had driven their hire car back from our hotel to the airport, dropped their luggage off and had taken a train into Amsterdam to spend a few hours there before their evening flight back to the UK. What were the chances of meeting up like that!! Kevin and Sharon were looking to eat and we were planning to do some exploring and eat later, so we parted to go our separate ways.

The weather was warm with a part cloudy sky; perfect for exploring the city on foot. We walked for miles around the streets, taking in a tour boat ride and enjoying the sights and atmosphere of this bustling, vibrant and friendly city. We stopped to enjoy a meal and some wine at a pavement bar before returning back by train to Lelystad, where we met up with all the remaining group for a glass of wine just as they were finishing their meal in a Steak Restaurant in town.

So, Monday morning and time to take the long trip home, with Clive, Aston and myself in convoy to Calais. Thankfully, the weather was fine and the traffic was light so we arrived at the port just in time to catch the ferry at 16.05, the crossing just prior to the one we had scheduled. The passage was a little rougher with a slight swell, but it's only an hour and 40 minutes journey so we were soon on our way home.

All in all, a very pleasant weekend in great company, with good food and many sights and experiences to make a memorable weekend  :13:

We want to thank YOU ALL for a amazing holiday!!! Dutch friends were amazing welcoming us to their country. And we had two really nice dinners with MRC crew! And ofcourse it was pleasure to talk to you all. Unfortunately, there is not enough time :) We really had fun  :13:

New Suzuki Baleno rental car... Crap... Engine was good. Quite good car at the citys. In motorways if windy, terrifying  ;D

As for sightseeing thru countryside of Nederlands. Lets just say that my time consuming research really payed off. We saw AMAZING places! Wondering around countryside just without destination was good idea. We did get lost few times and found beautiful places!

Rotarystock 4.0, amount of stunning cars... I really loved that there were lots of older cars, and they were beautiful. Cosmo, NSUs, RX2, RX4 and really nice FB´s. And those dudes were beating the s**t out of them FBs at track  ??? One dude from Belgium had stunning FB and me and Malcolm had good chat with him. Jim and Aston were flying at track and got podiums, so good job gents!

Concours... well... MONEY! Variety of cars, and their price tags, holy h**l! We ate most expensive tosts in the world, 3 were almost 20â,¬  :eek: For me, money well spent I guess, I saw really stunning and rare cars  :P
