Title: Bonnet pin help
Post by: Andyp on August 15, 2004, 05:03:23 PM
Hey!

I decided to replace my bodypins after my jap ones started to rust and look shite. I bought some identical ones but they have come with rivits and I have no idea how they work.

I don\'t really wanna use the screws that came with my original pair as they look crud too. The directions say just put the rivits in, which is about as much help as a chocolate fireguard. Anyone have any idea how these work? thanks in advance!

yeah you need a pop rivet gun like this (http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=10068&ts=86681)

you can get them cheaply from any tool place...
you put the thick part of the rivet through the holes in the bonnet (which should be a snug fit) then use the rivet gun to pull the thin part of the pop rivet. the thin part will then snap off leaving the thick part stuck firmly in the bonnet :)

A rivet gun/tool might put to much pressure on the fibre and crack it. I would go and buy some new screws.

plus removing rivets requires drilling them out which can be a pain.  Use decent stainless bolts!

chucked them back in with the old screws, looks ok tbh. Thought the shineyness would conflict with the dullness of the screws but looks fine.. i\'ll have to see if I can go off the end of the speedo just to see if the bonnet stays on ;)
