Title: Turbo jacket, Yes or No?
Post by: SW7 on May 25, 2016, 06:57:03 PM
Now I have gone single my GT35/40 is putting out a massive amount of heat and I'm concerned about my new Concept 7 fish gill hood and the heat as its fibreglass.

My turbo and downpipe currently have no heat shield or turbo blanket and am wondering if a turbo blanket is a good idea of it it would mean to much heat being retained around the turbo itself and possibly damaging it.

Any feedback welcome.

If you keep heat inside the turbo it's effectively energy, which will allow the turbo to spool up a little quicker. It's a no brainer, ptp do fantastic turbo blankets and I use the dei titanium wrap to wrap exhaust manifold and downpipe. Yes keeping the heat inside will slightly shorten the life of the components ( not drastically unless it's a race car under heavy driving all the time) but you gain better performance, lower bay temps and your lovey fish grill bonnet will be happy :) I recommend it. Had mine done over a year and nothing's broken yet.
