Mazda Rotary Club

Just watched the Geneva Motor show on the Motors TV Auto Mundial show :00123102:.

The star of the show out of the many concept cars was the Rotary,

The commentator said that yes, there will be another Rotary, which he dubs as the new RX-8, then and goes on to imply that this Rotary will probably be due to the  Toyota tie up which now gives Mazda the stability to continue  Rotary development.

Hopefully more evidence that we will see another rotary enter production sometime soon  :)

Also came across the following which is a patent application that Mazda has made in U.S. in respect to rotary engine development:

Yep, Mazda gave the green light for the rx9 :-) Will be 2019-2020 when the production car will be ready.

You all must have seen those Mazdas patent pictures allready. But have you really took a closer look at them and thought what those really are?

Here is some good thoughts about them. And these make me think too:

Pic 1: obvious that there is some weird components. Behind back of a seats and near gearbox area

Pic 2: ok, it uses 3 oil squirts per housing. But that flywheel area is the most interesting part

Pic 3: obvious to say that flywheel are is completely new stuff. Some kind of electric stuff going on. That area alone has three components that are included at patent application. 14, 42, 43. Also, check out sparkplugs. Mazda will be using their "laser sparkplugs"

Pic 4&5: seems to be quite "basic stuff" in these. However, so many numbers component numbers again added to patent application

Pic 6,7,8: needles to says, there is some weird components. Im quite sure that this is no range extender stuff, more like KERS system stuff I reckon

Pic 9,10,11: first pic looks like they redesigned gearbog and shaft tunnel. Looks rigid, and quite narrow actually. But look at those picks 10 and 11, new PPF system maybe?

Pic 12 onwards: ok, there is some very weird an complicated stuff going on!

Possibly the most exciting Mazda since the first Cosmo was shown at the 1964 Tokyo Motor Show. Three years later production started. But what is it going to cost? Will the price also be as hyper? Only worried 'cause I WANT one!

Too tight and wont be able to afford it.
Unless a rx7 thing happens and they slash the price lol.

I think its going to be expencive.

When RX-8 came here for sale, if I remember correctly, HiPo version was in 55-57k € range, wich was same price with Scooby STI WRX. So it was quite expencive.

So, this car, im thinking 100k range. Just because time, money and effort Mazda has put to it. Plus this car is in different genre that 8 and/or 7 used to be.

And I think for those reasons, I fear that Mazda wont be selling these cars much

Its always gonna start mind with item 43..it can bump /push start itself.
So a rotary hybrid or mazdas kers system. No sign of a turbo though. Circa 400bhp?

I didnt see turbo either. However, it could be small basic turbo, that Mazda find pointless to put on these pics. Also, looking at pics from cooling system, I thought that they are way too complicated for NA, even tho newer one, so that might suggest forged induction.

But yes, I do thing that this pic holds the most interesting components in this car.

For example, I have driven few years old Beemer 530EI that has around 260 horses, but it has 40 horses boost from electric motor. Let me tell you, whem that electric thing kics in, acceleration is surprising. Almost better than normaal turbo kicking in
