Ok so my clutch has just completely died, so before I go mad and start pulling bits off my car, are there any tips/advice from people who have done this before? Is there a best way of doing it and anything I should be aware before undertaking this?
Thank you!
Definitely a proper high lift ramp. Definitely 2 people as the gearbox weighs a ton. There\'s nothing too complicated about it but as I ain\'t got a ramp I entrusted it all to RX Motors. Cost £411 inc VAT for a complete new clutch supplied and fitted. With a ramp, total labour time is a bit short of 4 hours. Got tea thrown in and it\'s a nice drive round that part of the country.
Local place here in Brighton however wanted £600 for the same job!
Thanks for that. Only problem is the clutch is not just dead its non-existant. This car is not driving anywhere so it has to be a home job.!!
You sure it\'s the clutch plate that\'s dead? They don\'t usually just die completely - it\'s gradual. Mine \'went\' a while ago - it was one of the flexible hydraulic pipes that split...

I havent really told the whole story, it was actually gradual thing, and santa pod at the weekend finished it off. I thought it would have enough life left in it to get me 60 miles to Cheshire today but no! Coming up the slip road onto the motorway it started smoking around the gear shifter area and smelling of what I believe to be burnt clutch, I had to crawl along one junction turn around and return home.
The engine is revving and the car is going no where when the car is in gear and there is a nasty burnt clutch smell coming into the cabin, thogether with ocassional plumes of smoke coming up through the gear shifter area. So I am pretty certain the clutch is dead!
Have you got BIG ramps at home? You\'re gonna find it extremely difficult dropping the box with only a few inches of ground clearance..... How\'s about calling the AA for a lift to RX Motors?
