Title: Convert speed/odometer to miles
Post by: Jamzyb on December 09, 2015, 10:52:34 PM
Hey guys

My car arrives from Japan on Sunday. Need to change speedo. What I want to know is will the method below work on a 2002 RX-7?

http://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/daleclarks-guide-converting-kph-speedo-odo-mph-1015964/ (http://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/daleclarks-guide-converting-kph-speedo-odo-mph-1015964/)

Thanks

Its far simpler to buy a convertor that simply plugs in. They are readily available ebay and such like.

But they don't convert the odometer reading do they? Just start clocking in miles?

Yes then clocks from miles onwards. Dont think you can wind the clock back. Might get into trouble there milage misrepresentation. Never seen a import clocked back to miles its a given it will have part km and then miles on top. Just needs documenting in history.

I wasn't meaning is wind the clock back! Lol! If you see the link I posted, doing the bit of soldering, the odometer automatically converts the KM's to miles and starts to read in mph. Just wondered if it worked on a 2002 model, as the guy that posted was American and I think the car was a 1993...

I saw the link i think maybe various revisions over the years so the only way will be get it out and have a  look. Clusters can be quite delicate so be careful with it.

Logically, I would say that the pictures are clear enough on the board of the numbers that if you take yours apart and the pin outs and those numbers are the same as an earlier FD then I would say you should be ok

Thanks for the input guys. I'll have a look at it sometime and update you all here. I'm surprised nobody else has tried this! I have researched it further and believe someone was successful with a 2002 JDM clock.

Just need to calibrate my speedo to mph now, using the little blue screw behind the gauge and a GPS.

Didn't need any! All you do is move the left resistor to the right. Easy!

So that converts the odometer to miles.

Then you need to calibrate the speedo. Dale Clark has a guide on that also. Just need to drill a hole in side of clocks to gain easy access to adjust the blue screw and use a gps to get the correct speed.

Then if you want to remove the japanese limiter, if no pfc, you can cut/unplug the red & green wire going to ecu. If you get a pfc after that, you need to reconnect that wire, else it won't work.

Nice RZ by the way John!  8)

Thanks! I might create a how to thread sometime to make other people aware. It's pretty cool for freshly imported RX-7 owners!
