Your taxing is weird. Our is much easier, everythinc costs a LOT, plus 75% tax. And Im not joking... :(
Uk car tax is bonkers....actually call road fund license or used to be and idea was revenue generated paid to maintain the road infrasture....however its more of an emisions tax these days and phased in 2001 and 2006 more classes of tax based on c02 emmisions. So a pre 2006 rx8 pays half what a post 2006 rx8 pays.....and all rx8s are classed as 2600cc but this has bearing on its tax class....its on emmissions. Win for me ive successfully registered my rx8 engine westfield as a 1300cc...which as she is a 1994 means i pay the lower of the 2 tax classes that where in force then.
Its a bonkers system.....death and taxes 2 things youll never escape in life...but i think the more tax you pay.....maybe the better life you have.....deep! Lol

But what about those plates then? Often I see car sale add and it says something about plates? What is that thing?
Its a bit more involved than that but tried to simplify it....plates dont know. Car is assigned a reg or number at dealer which stays with car for life but you can buy a private plate....initials or something the plate spells if you like. Rules govern this as well. Plus we have old style and new style reg.

Same thing reg plate number plate private plate...lost of different names for numbers stuck on the front and rear of a car. The "plate" has nothing todo with the car tax you pay. The car tax you pay has 3 levels pre 2001 post 2001 and post 2006. And those 3 levels have a tax system based on emmisions....in a nut shell more c02 more money.
So if an rx8 was in production from 1999 to 2007....same car would have different levels of tax to pay yearly depending on age manufactured...my head hurts now. Like i said bonkers.
