Title: Wanted: White RX7
Post by: mr2nut123 on September 24, 2015, 12:09:17 PM
Hi.  I have been toying with the idea of an RX7 for a few years now.  Having owned MR2s most of my driving life, I am tempted to make the change and go down the RX7 route.

I currently own an immaculate Porsche 944.  It's such a joy to drive and handles very similarly to the RX7 with it's 50/50 weight distribution.  My only reason for letting go of it is that I couldn't afford to keep it a cruiser and I miss that turbo kick.

If there are any owners who fancy a change or perhaps can't justify the running costs of an RX with regards to fuel (i.e. daily runner) then feel free to drop me a pm.  I currently have the Porsche for sale elsewhere which should move on swiftly to a collector due to the immaculate condition.  It's only got 78,000 on the clock and has just had a full respray in original Alpine P1 (a proper one.  Bumpers off, door cards, sunroof etc.)

How much are you looking at spending and what sort of car do you have in mind? (standard/modified, early/late etc.) I have an immaculate white standard 99 spec RB right now

Hey Jit.  Quick reply!

I was looking to spend around £6000-6500.  I'm not too hung up about getting a later model if I'm honest.  I'd want one with a recent rebuild and the usual compression tests, but other than that I'd be open to either stock or slightly modified.  Main things to avoid really are aftermarket/clear rear lights and popups changed out for non popups  ;)

You got any pics/details?

Cool, no worries. The post was mainly to help people come to you with relevant ideas. I can send you further details but mine is well outside of your budget (10K) and doesnt have any documented rebuild history. I think 6-6.5k may get you a 92-95 white FD if you are willing to hold out but just be aware that prices are on the increase and so desirable colours like black and white command even more of a premium.

Thanks Jit!  Of course I'm new to RX7s and so don't understand the variants.  I do however realise that my budget wouldn't have bought a 99 model though.  I would be happy with a mid 90s FD.  I know prices are on the soar (and so they should be!), but equally it's a small community and unfortunately the general mass public just have the mindset 'boom, rebuild' so I'm confident that one will come up within my budget.

It would be nice to see some photos of yours though just for comparison!  I would personally not buy one without at least compression tests and ideally a recent(ish) rebuild.
