Hi,
i am a big rx7 enthusiast.
anyway i was just wondering if i could get insured on a rx7 type s as i want it as my first car.
But i have looked around for quite a few quotes and the lowest i have found is 8998 pounds which is totally ridiculous. Can anybody please help me i have no NCB and no convictions and i have had my licence for 1 year. Can anybody tell me what to tell the insurance companies and i am willing to pay upto 3000 pounds for insurance
thank you
I dont think you have much chance being realistic. Most 18 yr olds with no NCB and stuff struggle to even get an Escort or something insured nevermind an RX7!
lol. You will never find a cheap quote. What is a type S, is this a 3rd gen? If you really want a rotory car your better off trying to get a quote on a 1st gen but even their group 14 insurance.
Think your better off with a FWD rather than a RWD car.
what car do you think will be a good one for me.
(it has to look good and be quite fast)
thanks
Type S is a 3rd Gen. I think you may be best trying to get someone else to insure it and have you as a named driver but even then it will cost the earth.
My brother in law is 18 and I couldn\'t imagine him driving an RX7 - he would crash it within 5 mins (not saying you would).
lol.
could i get classic car insurance on the rx7? bcoz ncb doesnt count does it
and i was also wondering if adrian flux would insure me for about 3-4 thousand pounds?
Classic over 10 years old - your right NCB doesn\'t count but how long you have had your licence does as they still are in a very high group.
Adrian Flux are ok but people on here are still paying £1000 ish + and they are 22 and above.
ok so i probably wont get insured on a rx7 :( .
So can you recommend another car something like a integra type-r or something like that.
thanks
think you have to be 21 to get classic car insurance (dont quote me on it).
Have you thought of a saxo VTS or 106 GTI? There plaenty quick enough for an 18 year old. group 14 insurance still though.
less quicker are VTR, Punto sporting think there like group 7 insurance.
Good luck getting a quote.

Is it any surprise that people drive with no insurance when the quotes are so ridiculous.
How about having a 3rd gen RX-7 registered in the name of one of your parents, they insure it as a second car, and you buy a cheap runaround and insure it fully comp? That way the insurance company who has covered you fully comp will provide third party only cover on a car owned and insured by another person - ie the RX-7 for which the registered keeper is mum or dad.
Pete
will i be able to do this.
Adrian flux don\'t insure under 25s.
In fact I think you will be very lucky to find anyone to insure you on a 3rd gen Rx7 even if you have £4000 (for which you must be mad or very rich... :p I earn good money and still ponder my sanity paying £1000 a year to insure a car)
It\'s a 5sec 0-60 160+ mph car and no offence mate but you\'re only 18 and it\'s your first car?
I wish you luck but when I got my first car about 10 years ago at 17, it was a 1.4l escort which I paid £500 for and that cost me £500+ to insure 3rd party. As far as I understand insurance prices have gone up.
My advice, stick with a shit cheap banger for a couple of years and save the cash you\'d spend on insurance saving up for something you want.
My 1st car was an 800cc 205 lol
2nd was a Saxo VTS
3rd is a Fiat cinquechento
4th is a RX-7
Ive just got a quote from confused.com and they quoted me £2356 lol Ive already had a quote for £1200. Shows how much they vary :rollin
sorry to hear that & i\'ll try to resist the holier than thou attitude although it is based on logic, oh no Si just said insurers are logical may i now be flogged within an inch of my life

only so i can be allowed to live as Big Bubbas gimp! lol.
Congrats on yer fine taste thou mate :god

JUst read my post and it thought it might of sounded a bit harsh!
Fair play if you can get insured if not - why not look a spending some of the money you would spend on insurance going on some driving days?
There is plenty of RWD track action to be had around the uk and even better it\'s in someone elses car! Even at £200 a throw, you could have 10 sessions in a year and still be £2000 up. Plus you\'ll almost certainly be pretty potent behind the wheel. Just a thought.
If you are after cheap RWD fun, take a look at something like the original MK1 MR2s. These are dead cheap and a lot of fun to drive. Still rekon you\'d be paying a few quid for the insurance though but if you got a cheaper one then 3rd party insurance wouldn\'t be so bad as your fully comp excess would probably be the cars value anyway.
good luck with finding a cheap quote mate,
i think best bet is to get a FWD for a first car, an preferably under 1.6litres, otherwise insurance will be too high, ok fair enough u have £3000-4000 for insurance, but in the right mind of thinking, dont you think thats just plain stupid? (sorry if i sounded harsh there),
ever considered a 2nd gen?? i drive a 2nd gen turbo, with around 250bhp, 22 years old 2 years NCB and paying just shy of £900, i consider that to be not bad seeing as i have got 3 points for speeding on motorway before on my record still, (JOIN THE FC CREW :p )
but at the end of the day, whatever floats ya boat mate, as i must say the 3rd gen is not an easy beast to tame for a first timer, ;)
good luck matey
Patrick
All these guys are right here. Grab something cheap, simple and slow as a first car, please!
First cars should e willing to be bent (as they WILL ALWAYS BE!!) and not have you cry over them.
Mate of mine just got a car for his wife, her very first car. It\'s a cheap Honda Civic that\'s reliable, safe and above all previously dinged! She will bend it further, and she knows this so she\'s not upset she is driving an old hack.
So their next cars will likely be an MPV or similar, and trade in the RX8 on the 2005 model.
funnily enough, she said time to trade the 8 in, I said time to fit a turbo. I think I might have planted a seed there somehow...
Anyway, get a hack, get some seat time, a little helmet time in there too (even in a shed is still helmet time!) and take it from there. By the time you have finally killed your share of sheds, you will be ready enough for something wth a little meat and have the insurance rating to be willing to actually drive the thing!
Actually, if you can swing the cash, grab a series 1 RX7 and take that to the track.
Been there, bent that. Always wear a seat belt! ;)
I agree with what has been said above. An FD is a bit of a serious car as a first car, also if you start with an FD at 18, what do you have to aspire to? Still, if you can afford it and don\'t mind £8k a year.....
Other options that are quick-ish fun to drive (which is key):
1 MX5 (still not massively cheap to insure but better and a good intro into the world of RWD)
2 Honda CRX VTi (the wedge shaped one)
3 MR2 mk1 or early mk 2
4 200SX S13 (stil pricey on insurance but insure it 3rd party as it is £2k worth of car)
5 Gen 1 RX7 (all the fun of ratary driving for a lot less ££ and cheaper to insure + you\'ll be buying a classic which should increase in value for when you want to trade up)
there\'s my 2ps worth
Adrian Flux does insure under 25\'s ... just not a 3rd gen rx7 ! I\'ve been with them for 3 years now with the 1st gen and I\'m 23.
my suggestion for a 1st car ... buy somthing cheap and get some NCB and have fun driving a car that isn\'t a big deal if it all goes wrong. I\'ve never spent more than £2K on buying a car and I\'ve had loads of fun.
Adrian Flux has quoted me for the R2 FD3S I\'m looking at, I\'m 23 with 5+ years no claims, been driving 6 years. The fact that I\'ve been with them for 3 years might be helping me out though!
To be honest, I think you\'d be better off holding on until your 21, save the cash and then you could buy a beast with the money AND insure it for under £1500 fully comp!
thanks every1 for some great feedback
ok i wont buy a rx7 as a first car as all myfriends are telling me its stupid
so how about a ford fiesta rs turbo 1.6
i love that car and it is dead quick (0-60 in 7.0) which is good
and i also love the looks of the car
please reply telling me if i made a good choice or not and wheter insurance is ok or not
thanks
Try this Link for Car insurance Groups.

See what quotes you can get.
Cheers Stu.
Don\'t want to sound like an old fart or anything, but word of warning.
If this is your first car, then if you get a high performance one (60 sub 9 seconds), then you are most liekly going to have a big crash unless you\'ve already been driving a car with that sort of performance.
I don\'t mean to be nasty, just not wanting to see some one meet reality the hard way and have their dreams destroyed.
Get ur self a uno turbo. there 1.3 or 1.4 cheap insurance for u and tax. There not slow either give any boy racer a whooping plus there rare. Down side to the is that there a rust box
wot about a toyota starlet turbo (1.3 litre) and they r quite cheap to insure?
yeah, ur only 18 so what ever is going to sting u for insurance. The uno turbo is group 11 so not all that bad to insure. Ive had 3 of these now and are alot of fun. If u wanna check some out go to //www.turbocollective.co.uk
My mate has one of those, I havn\'t seen it yet but my brother has and says its nice. Their website is //www.isitaboat.co.uk but its down at the mo. Its got all are cars on that website :) and some funny stuff about chavs and corsa etc... Its just a bit of fun :)
the uno turbo is not the best looking car but it is speedy
but i like the starlet turbo which is both fast and looks ok
its a good pocket rocket.
or how would a fiat punto HGT be(0-60 in 8.5) good insurance group aswell
If your looking at the HGT you might aswel get a Saxo VTS because there quicker, handle better and look nicer imho
AND
Mines for sale :wave
18
dont be like all the other boy racers n get novas corsa saxo etc to many about and the daft body kits dont give it no extra bhp get a 1.3 0r 1.4 turbo plus u get to have a dump valve
Go to the Tesco site. Make up some cars and get a few quotes. Then youll have an idea of how difficult the insurance is going to be.
Starlet Turbos are all imports, this makes it extra hard to get covered and I tihnk your underestimating how expensive insure is.
At 18 my Bro was paying about 1.5k for a 1.4 Metro and this was last year.
Cheers
Lee
You can come see my saxo VTS if you like because if you live in Slough you live prety close to me. Im in Addlestone, weybridge, Woking area. Also you can check out our 1st gen RX-7 which might be cheaper to insure but still quite a high insurance group i think. Both cars are group 14 (I think).
WOULD I GET INSURED ON A FIRST GEN RX7 IF IT IS GROUP 14
AND I JUST GOTTA A QUOTE OF 5000 POUNDS ON A FORD FIESTA RS TURBO FROM THE AA:eek:
SO CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND ME A LIST OF 1.3 OR 1.4 TURBOS THAT I COULD GET INSURED ON
one insurance trick to watch out for, btw. You may be able to get a reasonable deal, but look at the excess... I\'ve a friend who got a stupid daft deal on his insurance, but his excess was over £10k. He had a smack, and you can imagine the rest...!!
Good luck, and keep up the ambition!!
Fiat uno tubbies are quite fun but then i was killing it doing a trial thing in a muddy field (OK there "were" a few fences too untill i had a go....)
It was all perfectly legal at a subaru dealers a meet few years back they were also fiat dealers & had an old turbo with a gasket or sumin gone so they let us kill it in stylee in their big field damn that was fun......:cool
Si
Uno turbo is group 10 insurance.
Punto sporting is group 7 (new shape one comes with one of those boom boom box things in the boot if your interested)
Fiat chinq & Sechento (spelling) are very cheap insurance not the quickest things though, but at 18 your not going to get anything super quick unless you get a 125 bike or somthing?
SAxo VTR is group 7 aswel
MR2 ?? That would be a nice car to have at 18 (wish i did). Wouldn\'t be able to get teh turbo version though. Or mabe the version before that if insurance is too high. How about an old Lotus Europa? My mate is doing his up at the moment. Were going to race the 1st gen (1985) against it :) Should be fun. :rollin
ok ive decided that im gonna get a 1997 honda civic 1.4 hatchback
and gonna modify it so it looks stunning
hows that idea?
I can point you at POW-R for body kits
(edit note - I know Alan from POW-R and his every day car is a 1.4 civis automatic with Mugen body kit).
thanks
but what i have in mind at the moment is a bomex front bumper and a wing west rear bumber (tuner typ 2) and side skirts from wing west. and a roof spoiler
i want a black metallic colour and some 17 inch rims.
i want to put red vinyl on it and have blue neon
how does that sound?
i think im probably gonna be the youngest rx7 fd driver on here, im only 20 any got insured through blood sweat and tears........
payin silly prices on insurance on my first car so i got an accelarated no claims bonus! then pleadin with Adrian Flux eventually got me insured! for £2600
:D but god am i happy now
I gota meet you now just to check your real.....

lol
Si
hahahah very much real....
an sadly very much 20
im gonna turn into your young apprentice learnin from the great master, i got a lot to learn:god
Har har i just won a bet everyone round here said i\'d never be able to fool anyone

i\'m surprised no-one has mentioned about the Mazda 323 4x4 Tubby yet, now there\'s a very rare pocket rocket you dont see often, not too sure about insurance group wise, but there were 2 versions from what i remember, 1.6turbo and 1.8turbo, both were 4WD, can pick one up for around £4k now.
if you\'re considering a 1.4civic, why not consider the 1.6vti version?? 150 or was it 160bhp, and thats by no means slow. pretty good looking with the right mods, and lots of potential performance wise.
Patrick
1.6 is a BF 4x4 turbo and was sold in the UK in a few different specs.
1.8 4x4 comes in two versions GTX or GTR both based on the later BG chassis, both were never imported in great numbers to the UK so most are imports and have a high insurance group. GTX is more common and the GTR was the homolgation special for the WRC cars that Mazda used in the 90\'s.
all the 3 don\'t fit the bill as a cheap car to insure by a long shot !
My advice is to stick with the Honda but leave it standard and save for your next car.
Thanks
Ye i Might get the 1.6 vti it is actually 160 bhp which is great
does anybody know what the 0-60 would be on that?
Why don\'t you get a Pug 205 1.9 GTI. Nice and nippy. Fairly cheap now to counteract the insurance...
...seriously tho - get a few years under your belt and then get one. I\'ve been waiting 3 years to get my Rex and now at 24 with 5 years NCB i\'m struggling to get insured on an import for less than £1000, which i\'d like.
Oddly, I can get a UK 3rd gen for £550 fully comp
Condsidering sticking with my modded 270-280bhp modded S14 200SX (next year quoted at £433 by flux) unless I can get the rex sorted for quite a bit under £1k unless I can find a nice black or red UK rex :)
Or you could do something silly like me for the love of rotaries!
Fully comp at 18 on Toyota Corolla 1.3Gs and have the rx reg\'d and insured to my father. I\'m driving the fd 3rd party for over a year now.
Just a thought. :yes
Mr J.T, I\'m 19 now, actually 20 tomorrow! (wohoo!)
Trouble with that is Freddy, if you bin that Rx then not only will you get no money for it, you will also screw your Dads no claims.....but then I\'ll bet he\'s already told you what he will do to you in that eventuality though, right? ;)
yep yep...
which is why its going up for sale. Had it a year now, cant really complain anylonger to let it go. :(

18 comp on one car and using third party on a rx7?! You can\'t be insured to drive any car at that age, its 21 and above... who is your insurer?
Quote from: Mr J.Tpleadin with Adrian Flux eventually got me insured! for £2600
:D but god am i happy now
They wouldnt even insure me when I had just turned 23 and had been insured with them for 3 years. Thats 4 years ncb (drove my mums car before i got my own) so 5 claim free years. I just took out a policy with //www.bell.co.uk :Thumbs-up
I was with Adrian Flux on my last car for 2 years, when I rang up to cancel I got a quote from them on a 1994 3rd Gen Type R2 for £2500 fully comp. Im 21, licence for 4.5 years, 2 years ncb on this policy. In the end I insured with Noel Dazely for £1295 fully comp which im pretty happy with.
Silent assasin,
Your mad for even considering it but I\'ve got to take my hat off to you. I\'m only 22 myself and just got my first RX7.
I did it once, had a 3year old scooby, a proper one at 18 and payed £3000 to insure it. Only did it for a year and with that the £1500 depriciation and the fuel bill (as I couldn\'t keep my right foot up) it crippled me.
After that I had the most boring 3 years of my life as I just couldn\'t find a car to make me smile, until now.
In short I wish I\'d of never done it, I should of started small and progressed slowly to keep me smiling. It was no good trying to play the rich boy because I came into some cash as it didn\'t last forever. So unless a serious trust fund is about to mature!!!
Good luck with whatever you decide and keep your dreams, it\'s good to have something to strive for and you\'ll get what you want one day.
P.S my mate was well impressed with his starlet but I never went in it.:driving

This thread was started 2 years ago! :Hammer
so did he get a rx7 in the end. ?????
When i was 18 i got a MR2 Turbo rev 2, it cost me 2500 to insure it, with 1 years no claim. that was with tesco but they have changed there policys now.
which was proberly my fault cause i wrote of that mr2.
