Title: New fd3 owner from Nottingham
Post by: albone13 on August 04, 2015, 10:16:30 AM
I'm Andy from Nottingham I'm hoping to collect my new rx7 next weekend as long as my dc5 sells.
My rx7 is currently at lcRotary where it's had and engine swap from a 99 spec import with high compression and a 2 year warranty.
Also had a fresh respray so no rust.
The car is currently running a turbo back exhaust but I'm having a cat put back on as can't afford ecu and remap at this time. Twin blitz intakes which are brand new.
All I can say is I can't wait to pick it up think it will take some getting use to as never had rear wheel drive and turbo.

My past cars include dc2, crx, gt4 st185 and st205, s3 and my current car dc5

Welcome, I came from Honda 8 years ago and have never looked back. I had an EF vt then a UK eg6 vti and finished with a jdm dc2 all of them black.

Welcome to MRC Andy  :welcome:

With just a cat-back and induction kit you should not need an ECU and a re-map. If you want to be sure it does not over boost fit a boost gauge as a first mod and make sure it only reads 1 bar.

If you have never driven RWD a trackday will help understand the car.

Hope this helps and have fun out there.

Thanks

The car is now decatted and ready for rotary revs to remap the car next thursday.
The engine is ported and im only running a base map on the apexi so qas told this is why its running a little rough hopefully she will be up and running as long as no other problems are found

Welcome mate nice 7 and thats an epic warranty from LC rotary to keep the rotary paranoia away!
First rwd...? should be fine in the dry but the wet will take some throttle control. Just build up speed slowly  :P

Well i was told i have that warranty from company i brought off as lcrotary fitted the engine but turns out its not true got told a lie from said company reckon they just wanted to sell it.

These are the compression results i got when i brought it and ive done no more than 500 miles since.
I was told its a standard mazda colour its not quite black its like a deep green looks like it has like a glitter effect looks great in the sun if i can get a better pic when suns out il post it

Nice numbers on the comp test...well if you bought from a dealer you have 3 months warranty...
With regards to mods....that will invalidate any warranty....id get it mapped for mods b4 giving it any loud pedal.

Cut a long story short i actually brought the car last august the day i drove home it broke the company i brought it off took a month to collect and lcrotary actually had the car till 4 weeks ago. 7 months or so they had it.
Ive had gearbox replaced, turbos along with a load more stuff but the car still is not fixed.
I fixed the idle problem myself as a wire had snapped to the air intake temp sensor.
Thats why its gone somewhere else so hoping to finally get it done

So i took the rex to be mapped and have a bigger alloy rad fitted turned out the one i brought was some how wrong so the company i usex had a pwr rad lying around and put my ast in a better position. Will post pics in a few days.
Now the mapping turns out the eratic idle ive got could be down the the throttle position so they managed to get some of the map done it actually drives pretty decent low down still not taken the car over 4k rpm as dont want to damage my engine.
Getting there slowly

So its been offically a year since i left my deposit on what can only be described as my nightmare of a car.
So it looks like i had some split hoses and even had some missing and the gaskets between the manifolds and engine may aswell of not been there as were in that bad a condition the hoses and gaskets have now been replaced and just needs a new map sensor and hopefully can then be mapped and i can finally get behind the wheel unless they find more things wrong which i can only imagine they will if they keep looking

With the split and missing hoses replaced and the gaskets done the surging idle has now gone but the car idles at 1800rpm.
One problem fixed and another one to sort out got a feeling this could be never ending

check your throttle cable has a tiny bit of slack and not pulling on the throttle pulley and there is a thermo wax plunger on the right hand side of the throttle body...when the car warms up the plunger comes out and drops the idle down....if the car has been stood for awhile the coolant passage through the TB could be blocked and the car will never come off cold start.

theres photos and a write up in my build thread.

Thats already been sorted mate it turns out the lower intake manifold gasket was 50% missing and there were no gaskets on the turbos and they even had some studs missing and the down pipe was covered in exhaust paste

So had ghe car back a couple of weeks now my mate did my wheel alignment for me (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160909/77e3937c098f173a7cf520ffd59c7f7d.jpg)
Still abit out but the bolt was siezed solid and he didnt want to snap the bolt.

Also realised a small leak from the back of the gearbox so thought i would go ahead and change the oil in both diff and gearbox
