Title: Few questions about RX-8
Post by: re japi on August 01, 2015, 05:21:06 AM
Ok, one dude here has 8 which has some problems. :/

First, he needs full clutch pedal assembly. Dunno whats wrong with it at this point but he was told in local dealer that its common problem in 8. So should he get used from scrap car or new mazda part??? And what kind of prices they sell?

Any info? Cheers :)

Thanks Jon.

Dunno what kind of system is that, thats why i had to ask. But if its so simple, i dont know whats wrong with it. Dealer said that its typical problem in 8s. I have to ask more info...

Do you know if there is some common problems with them?

Because that same car has issues with brakes. My opinion is that master brake cylinder is stuck or gone. Cause all brakes are "locked"...

I was just going to send you a message!  :)

Im not aware of a common clutch prob other than noisy clutch release bearing....need to ask what prob is....the tech manual on here explains it greatly.

Then the clutch... When pushing clutch pedal, it moves sideways quite alot!!!! Also when pushing, seems like somethink "sucks" pedal down. Then in bottom, last inch or so, there is some kind of feeling in pedal. Before that, pedal is just sloppy and no feel in it...

Weird, i dont get it...

Sounds like clutch and brake pedal assembly broke so locked brake due sideways movement.

Id suggest taking drivers seat out and having a good look...purely guessing tbh....but would explain reason for brakes jammed on.

As Jon says, get the seat out and have a look

It could still be a totally worn out clutch still as the pedal can end up on the floor if its really dead

There IS a known weakness with the bracket holding the RX-8 clutch pedal and there have been reports of the bracket failing, causing pedal issues.

This might help to explain;

Master elec windows and mirror controls are mounted on door handles. I suspect lh and rh orientated with dash loom...gonna be a huge job bud.

Aah crap... :/ there goes those plans then ;)

One thing really confuses me: if ecu needs original steering whrel and throtlle pedal to work, is there any way to overwrite them? I mean that if I want to use different steering wheel and pedal box. And can throtlle body (maf) be modifyed to be used with cable. Not drive-by-wire what it is now... Stupid ecu and electric things, i just dont understand them :)

Still trying to fimd answer for my previous question...? :)

However, now I have some new questions: If spare engine is purchased from Uk, is it direct swap to our LHD cars? Engine loom works,  that vacuum hose thing bolts into place dirrectly and so on? Does it need any changes?

Cheers :)

Big work if its possible atall . The throttle body doesnt just open throttle it tell pcm how much and fueling is metered by the signals. Remove it and car in limp mode if it will run atall. Good system lovely idle and coldstart. Are steering wheel is on the "right" side ive never seen a leftie so cant answer that question.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. There has to be some way to made it "old school", just throttle wire to throttle body. (dunno correct terms...)

No no Jon, your steering is wrong side :) Anyhoo, I think there are not much difference, there cant be...

Can i ask why?
Title: Re: Few questions about RX-8
Post by: re japi on March 23, 2016, 03:11:02 AM
What why? :) That throttle modification? Because some our racing rules, rallycross included, rules say that throttle has to be by wire, not by electronics and computer...

Post by: boosted on March 23, 2016, 10:17:31 AM
Well thats silly...cant see why that is cable throttle is more likely to get hung up in a whack than fly by wire.

You know, I really dont have answer to that :) But its in the rules...
