Title: Kit cars, mx5s and previous owned cars
Post by: Grant Monkhouse on July 23, 2015, 08:05:14 PM
As I have a spare engine and turbo setup, I have been looking into what I could use it in for the future, bearing in mind cost and use for the car. It will be for sprints/hill climb/track and a bit of drag.

It would defo do the job....400 hp would be too much for mine. i think its good money. And as there moving premises a deal could be done.

prob is and a good prob is that power...if it needs to be cheap then need an old gas guzzler with a big chassis that can handle the torque.

Rotary and torque?? Rofl
Title: Re: Kit cars, mx5s and previous owned cars
Post by: boosted on July 23, 2015, 08:28:41 PM
400 hp rotary still makes 300nm of torque??? at a guess?
Title: Re: Kit cars, mx5s and previous owned cars
Post by: Grant Monkhouse on July 23, 2015, 08:31:03 PM
Yeh just joking, turbos makes the rotor make torque.

Iv never seen one of those kit cars before. So good. I once saw some hill climbing and they were using roofless lotus's wish I could remember what they were

I dunno. Lol. It's a future project so could be a bigger budget if I have more money.

The aim is to get something that can have an engine thrown in and
Drive it

Title: Re: Kit cars, mx5s and previous owned cars
Post by: Grant Monkhouse on July 23, 2015, 08:59:42 PM
I know! It's just the weight as wants something small and light, don't need silly power then to make it a quick drag car:) the rx8 electronics seem tricky too as would have to run 2 systems. One for the car and it's gizmos and the standalone
Ecu

I would need a 3.9 diff with a turbo motor as the standard diff is a bit too short for turbo power. IMO. Great for NA though

dont need the gizmos...strip it right out cheap acewell digi dash. power steering is standalone. really doable on a budget mainly unbolting and making a pile of bits

I thought the thread would go a bit more like this  :D

Here is a picture of my first car which I tried to learn to drive in when I was 11 or 12 ------------------didn't go too well on the first attempt.

I managed to drive it into the woods at the back of my home and on the first straight it wobbled about -------------and fell over-------------I then found it had plate glass windows----------------it was obviously far too fast for me  ;) ;) and maybe still is !!

Wait, what??? RX4 weights how much???  ???

I believe that you can get rx8 to weight around 1100kg quite easily. However, it needs mods so dunno if its road leagal then anymore ;) And if you want it to weight less than that, you need to mod it hard... ;)

I want to swap renesis on to e36 325 beemer. Why? Easy to get, cheap parts, lots of upgrades available and so on. And its a good car, great handling...

That yellow kit car looked nice. And that evo and skyline too ;)
Title: Re: Kit cars, mx5s and previous owned cars
Post by: Grant Monkhouse on July 24, 2015, 05:42:28 PM
Told my dad that rx8s can be picked up for less than £600 and he agreed that an rx8 is by far the best idea, no need to do anything except drop the engine in. I could probably even use an rx8 gear box too so I don't have to get a new prop shaft!

Only technical bits is getting the brakes and steering to work without the ecu

At the risk of some ridicule at the "period clothing"  :-[ :) This was my first car: 850cc Austin Mini. But what year was the photo taken?

The picture was taken after some quick repairs following a slight bump into the rear of another car - those drum brakes were awful  :(

Bring back any memories for the "more mature" generation on the forum  ;)
