Title: Air pump drive belt
Post by: Sam_w on July 12, 2015, 04:30:11 PM
Hi guys
New to RX's and am after a new air pump drive belt.
I have a 10x950 belt but it's miles too long!
Anyone know what size to use?
Google just gives me results for air pump removal

Thanks in advance
Sam

Hello again Sam.   If I recall it's 900 x 10 mm.  Make sure you fit a quality belt though.

Good, glad you managed to get one.  Just ask if you need guidance on anything else.  There's a lot of collective knowledge here.
Enjoy the RX!

Thanks guys
Just to hijack my own thread, is there a way to stop the headlights popping up with the sidelights?

Sam, I would say somebody has wired the lights to work together for whatever reason

Did they not do that from factory then?
Both my MX5 and S13 200SX did it but you can mod the wiring/relays to stop it

Thinking about it, mine operate the same way as yours Sam.

Sam, you've raised (excuse the pun) an interesting point.  I was about to say that its normal for the headlights to automatically raise when just the sidelights are on.  That's what mine has always done since I've had it.  However I just looked at my Owners Manual and it states that the headlights only raise when the control is turned to the second stop position (ie headlights on).  The implication from that is they shouldn't raise with just the sidelights on.  Mmmmm......???

Even if think that's a terrible pun (and I'm renowned for terrible puns at work!!) but with regards to the owners manual does that class the off position as its first position therefore making the sidelights second position?

Likewise on the puns - it keeps me amused even if everyone else chooses to ignore them!

The OM considers the off position as just that;  the first stop as sidelights;  the second stop as headlights.  However now I think about it the OM is not always applicable to UK cars.  With the sidelights on (ie first stop) the headlights also come on at low voltage - which is the dim dip arrangement that I believe all UK FC's had - so by definition the headlights need to come up.

Of course my question is now - do your headlights come on dimly when the sidelights are selected?

I'll have to double check, I think that they do though.
I'll have to trawl through the wiring diagram and try and figure out if I can stop the signal to the headlights

Just checked, with the Ignition off the side lights come on with the headlights coming up, with ignition on the headlights pop up and come on dim.

Yep, that's what mine do.
Not sure on how to go about disabling the dim-dip though.

I'm sure if I can isolate the ignition switched feed that makes them work with the sidelights that should do the trick I hope
