Silverstone Classic has grown into a very large event. There are lots of racing cars, mostly older . You will not see current F1 cars there. Historic Racing goes on all day. There is music in the evening
The event uses the new pits in the “Wing” as well as the old pits for the Historic racers . There is an informal attitude to getting close to the cars. Not many jobsworths. There are also masses of one make club stands and trade stands.

There is a bus service from the club stand area to the “Wing” paddock. Use it early to avoid the queues .

Traffic on the A43 can be a nightmare so finding a route that avoids it is recommended.

Japanese car clubs are not well represented . There is typically just a 240Z club and MX-5 clubs , and UK and European clubs predominate. But you will see some exotic cars as well as things that will have you scratching your head and sayingf “WTF is that”. The event appeals to enthusiast who look ourside of the world of Jap cars and have an interest in motor racing

There are many trade stands but not many “tuner” stands, and they cater to the more “general” enthusiast who has an interest in historics.

There is often a silver RX-7 on the Sporting Bears stand.

The infield parking is major plus - almost a different experience to the alternative. Because it is Silverstone's second biggest event of the year, in a public car park you can wind up a very very long way away from whatever you forget to get out of the boot and won't have cover for the unexpected summer shower.   As Martin says, the traffic IS a nightmare. Some competitors were reduced to using the hard shoulder to dodge the off ramp queues and get into the circuit on time when I was there last. They promise to make it better each year...I expect they do.

Once you are in there is plenty to see/do even if you aren't much moved by the classic racing. To be fair, the new Silverstone is not ideal for some of the categories, cars tending to spread out quickly based on straight line speed on a circuit designed around F1. BUT don't rule out the stuff you think will be  slow or dull because the Formula Junior race a few years back has gone down as one of the best, cleanest and closest races of all time - wheel to wheel and a rizla in it at the finish.  Fantastic stuff and not a famous former GP star anywhere in the field..thankfully.

You can walk pretty much unhindered through assembly areas and the sprawl of transporters where people are working on cars you saw in a book once.   The Group C race is usually a highlight, exciting ground effect LM racers, and suitably noisy.  If you have not been - give it some thought. Very family friendly with live music in the evening...best to arrive early and leave late. An RX7 creates more interest than you might imagine among such exalted company because so many there would not think of looking further than Coventry, Warwick or Abingdon for a classic car.

You can camp across or just down the road from the circuit if you are hardy. Probably too late for a hotel room nearby and Brackley is not the best place in the world to look for a restaurant you have not booked with...and you should probably have done that last September! But whatever - it's a rattling good weeekend without any of the overtones of Goodwood...where it always feels to me I'm supposed to be grateful for being allowed in! :D I'm really sorry I can't make it this year.

I can vouch for this being an excellent event having attended for the last few years.  Already booked for all 3 days this year with the Ford Mk11 replica.  We always stay in Northampton as A43 from that direction appears to have less traffic and have had no problems driving straight in at around 8:00 to 8:30.  If you leave it later queues start forming.
