Title: Apexi PFC and FC Commander Compatability
Post by: Eclipsed4ever on April 09, 2015, 09:31:27 PM
Evening all.

Today I tried to install my second hand PFC to my 1994 RX7 FD. I've run into a couple of issues.

Physically the ECU seems to fit well, all plugs match etc. The one I have is a FD3S2 9904-00?? which I believe is an 8bit ECU which is correct for this age FD.

I bought it with an FC Commander which is labelled up as FCC2 ZF 010-00066.

When the ignition is turned on, the commander powers up and displays the 'Apexi' logo, but won't change. From having a search about this would appear to be a conflict in versions - slightly annoying as I bought them as a working pair. I've checked the internal connections and they seem to be fine in the controller end.

I've done quite a bit of googling but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer as to whether I have the correct versions or not, but I don't think so. If anyone could confirm that would be great!

Secondly, I've read even if the commander is the wrong version, the PFC should still function as normal. At the moment the car doesn't fire at all, but I don't actually know what it's set up as - as I can't check. Was hoping to just hear it fire so I know the ECU is a good un. Weirdly, with the PFC plugged in, sometimes when the ignition turns on the cooling fan comes on, sometimes it doesn't? What might this mean?

Cheers in advance!

If you still have your FCC2 ZF commander I like to buy it if you don't need it.
