Title: Cut out while driving (FD)
Post by: alexgtr on March 11, 2015, 05:32:37 PM
Hi Guys,

I'm looking at picking myself up an FD and have been speaking to a guy who has one for sale that is not running at the moment. He was driving down the motorway and it just cut out and now cant get it started again.

I have been reading everywhere and cant find a definitive answer to what could cause this and if it could be a simple fix or need a rebuild.

The engine was rebuilt 12k ago and is pretty much standard apart from an exhaust and air filters.

I obviously can try my luck, go and see the car and buy it for a reduced price (how much do you think its worth not running, its a 94/95) take it home and find its something simple, or it could be completely knackered and need a rebuild, which I am happy to do but obviously dont want to pay a premium for a car with a potential dead engine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unless your getting it for a price reflecting a blown engine I personally would walk

He wants £2500 for it but is going to try and get it running this weekend as he obviously wants the full price if he can get it running himself.

£1500 - £1800 what I'd pay max and this is for something in very good condition physically apart from the engine of course.
