Title: Loss of boost
Post by: neoroony on February 24, 2015, 07:48:50 AM
Hello all,

It's been a while and was getting back on with the FD after getting it back on the road. Finished off a load of jobs (ok so maybe WGT did), aeromotive fpr, BNR32 fuel pump, bigger injectors. The mapping session blew an engine seal which was replaced and following that the turbo seals but it should be fine to use NOT!

I was expecting Matthew Kelly to tap on the window when sat in traffic and seeing as I was likely to get pigged, away the FD went again.

Second hand twins bought from minotaur racing and fitted a couple of weekends ago, which is a pig of job but all good. Not really given it the beans but it appeard to be behaving. Idle issues but seeing as its been stood for ages i wasnt surprised and it settled after a few runs. Happy chappy.

This morning i was pootling along in no hurry, came off a large round about in 3rd put my foot down and nothing, dropped it to 2nd and nothing. Im sure I could here the turbo spooling ever sp slightly but less than zero boost.

Checked the vac pipes by phone light and couldnt see any popped off. There isnt that many to remove when swapping the twins out, maybe 8 or so and they all look good.

Other than double checking these tonight (would a leaky vac pipe really cause zip all boost?) any other suggestions?

Will i cause any damage a couple of miles a day while i get this sorted?

Cheers

can you hear the turbos spooling?

Have you got a boost gauge or power fc to monitor?

And can you get to front turbo and see if it spins freely....i had this once on  wrx....piece of cat material flake off the up pipe cat and wedged in 1 of the turbine blades....I simply removed it with tweezers and voila 0.8bar of fun back!  Then did and up pipe decat ( subaru).

its either not spinning or wastegate open?

any blow off valve/ dumpvalve on air in side?

Ladies and gentleman we have boost!

And in my defence it was the professionals who last last touched that side of the engine and it was pitch black by the light of my phone when I was investigating earlier on.

It appears the intercooler out had popped off the throttle body elbow.

Please file under doh!
