Title: Re: Exiled Vikings Long Orange Project Under Tray Build
Post by: exiled-viking on February 19, 2015, 09:13:00 PM
Around 3 months ago I decided to fabricate my own Under-tray this was because there was nothing out there for the price I was willing to pay.
And that I would have ended up modding it to get what I was after, So I needed it to be around 2mm gauge aluminium have two inspection hatchers to get at various parts of the rear front bumper.
Also to add a little more strength, air flow, and air flow up into the superchargers intercoolers also I wanted it to be removable with two plastic grommets, and 8 spire clips it is  now removable in around 5 minutes.

All done for a little Under £40.00 parts and aluminium off eBay with free delivery  :D

First get your aluminium put the old under Tray on the ally and scribe around the tray and all the mounting holes

1/  (http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r616/exiledviking1/11215135_132538027112400_8577375797835579297_n_zpsqrjsmoim.jpg) (http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/exiledviking1/media/11215135_132538027112400_8577375797835579297_n_zpsqrjsmoim.jpg.html)

cut around you scribe marks

2/

you should end up something like this  I trimmed mine with some rubber seal

3/(http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r616/exiledviking1/10407434_846481198752997_2119493637574526509_n_zpst1sjrhbi.jpg) (http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/exiledviking1/media/10407434_846481198752997_2119493637574526509_n_zpst1sjrhbi.jpg.html)

I then started Fabricating my bespoke parts then started making the sump Under tray

(http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q638/3733cadwal/Facebook/2014%20to%202015%20refurbish%20my%20RX8/10286757_846481152086335_4161785268334216294_o_zps6s1cr8zc.jpg) (http://s1167.photobucket.com/user/3733cadwal/media/Facebook/2014%20to%202015%20refurbish%20my%20RX8/10286757_846481152086335_4161785268334216294_o_zps6s1cr8zc.jpg.html) move one

4/(http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r616/exiledviking1/IMG_5932_zpswtkmhdlv.jpg) (http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/exiledviking1/media/IMG_5932_zpswtkmhdlv.jpg.html)

Holes cut starting to work out what needs to go in and where

5/(http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r616/exiledviking1/IMG_5938_zpsl86l8l44.jpg) (http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/exiledviking1/media/IMG_5938_zpsl86l8l44.jpg.html)

Once all the parts are made I started putting it together made the vents to size added seal, then pop riveted the vents on along with the air deflector.

The Inspection hatchers at the front have 4 spire clips fitted (2 per Hatch ) so if you slacken one off and remove the other screw then the hatch can be opened with out having to fully remove it.

6/(http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r616/exiledviking1/IMG_5979_zps20xmqgrk.jpg) (http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/exiledviking1/media/IMG_5979_zps20xmqgrk.jpg.html)

7/(http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r616/exiledviking1/IMG_5966_zpsu81uvfia.jpg) (http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/exiledviking1/media/IMG_5966_zpsu81uvfia.jpg.html)

I used M6 spire clips to fix this to the car x 8 and flat head screw bolts

(http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r616/exiledviking1/IMG_5981_zpsrbcjfihv.jpg) (http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/exiledviking1/media/IMG_5981_zpsrbcjfihv.jpg.html)

Fits like a glove good project for a Sunday Afternoon  thank you for taking the time to look   :thumleft:

Early Last Year (Before my accident when the car was rear Ended and then shoved under the rear of a truck) I had been on to Power~Gains Motorsport to Build me something a little special, Kerim took the Racing Beat Street Porting Kit to Another level adding some Extra touchers.

The Face Book Page Is for Any  Japanese car, the 170 closed group RX rotary Owner,s there are around 22 or so in this group from the Uk most from the USA they pick on some one,s car by befriending them so you let them into your face book page then they take photo,s from your page of your build then post it up for assassination rip the build apart wait for you to retaliate But what they cant stand is if you start agreeing with them as they would like confrontation,,
The trouble is i was a member under another name which they do not know about when my turn came some of the so called uk owners even said that if seen it would receive a KEY reception so take that as a play on words if you like but i took it as a threat so thats why i took a back step and pulled my page .

I will set it back up with photos but once again there small narrow minds and bigoted kids came to mind but the avg age was around 35 out  spoil things.

well last week dropped a set of ladders on the front end and wings so a fair bit of work to be done not happy thought about applying the course i did last year so got to grip with the wings the passengers side is done but i have a large crease in the drivers side its all down to cash which I will not spend on the build now if I cannot fix this then I will be parting the car out,  :( how ever some cleverly made plates and some carbon fibre hydro dipping rather than spending cash on a spray job might work I am half way through a front end build so it might work out fine in the end.

aaaaaaaaaaaaH Bloody Cars : :'(

I thought mine had suffered some decision making damage (still not agreed with my insurance), but given your investment of time, effort and money in this car, I thought it would be yours forever !!

p.s thats after topping up the bumper headlight screen wash tank as well  ;)

You can just about make out the white right angle water pipe going into the top right of the tank

So Its not taken me long to get the work done on the front end where I dropped a set of ladders on the car I only had one Crease/dent that I could not remove so I opted for a cheep fix well bespoke car Bespoke fix Lol cheeper than £1500.00 for paint and parts I would have done the Labour so this was around £90.00 all in cut ,dipped, and fixed goes well with the Strakes ,,

WELL in the video It says the car has not run for around six weeks but Amanda checked the Calendar and found it was nearer to 9 weeks so she started a little sluggish but still the first turn of the Key no chance of taking her for a drive as have not had the ok from the Doc yet and I need to fit a new door gas Ram but pleased  just to sit in her and flip the accelerator .......  then put Her back in the garage....

Well for the last few months I have Been trying to get around the dreaded
RX~8 v10.1 and v9.81 Radio firm ware  well with a few bits I have Beat it Now the I phone will link by Bluetooth/or by cable or/wifi as soon you turn the Ignition on the head unit radio , 4500 songs at the touch of a button just love it,

UBC = umbilical block connector

The small head unit  is form the USA around $14.5

The kit part made up of two block connectors  got off ebay 1/  take the block connector out of  Mini disc HD player (sorry Old School) Then plug in the umbilical connector block (which I have made) 2/ then replace the mini disc block connector into the back of the new UBC  the lead from the UBC  then  plugs into to the small bluetooth head unit .( in picture one) you have to make up the UBC connection wires around a meter each in length this gives you plenty of scope when hardwiring and hiding the wires out of sight …….

the small bluetooth head unit can be run in four  ways

1/ Fm bluetooth - radio connection  select any frequency 87.5 to 88.9 & pair instant music from your phone ….(with this there is a little back ground hiss not that audible can be heard around the volume 24 setting)

2/ mini 32gb SD Card (the card holds 4500 music tracks approx) And is  radio Direct link from small head unit through UBC, press twice on Cassette/mini disc button on mazda radio unit this then connects direct and overrides the mini disc option….

3/my iPhone or android (my Samsung ) connection is use the Link supplied cable to the ear phone out socket into the USB connection to the small head unit this is the direct link to the mazda head unit and works like the 32gb card but over overrides the 32gb card and is the direct link with the radio to connect with the radio just press the cassette/mini~disc button twice this will then override the mini~disc or cassette  a line in with clear no hiss or back ground noise….

4/ you can use it a bluetooth phone connection

I love the cable link direct to the Mazda head unit there is a slight loss of volume as in the first two settings is not audible but from volume 3 setting up to the limit is fine ….

The steering wheel lets you select tracks up and down all let you control the volume just a you do for cd

There is no fascia display just says mini/disc select but will play as many music tracks on your devise on a auto shuffle or playlists or Genres, albums, artist,or compilations ….

If you do not have the Aux equipment i.e. mini~disc/cassette players then just plug the made up UBC plug into the back of the AUX connection .

The small head unit comes from the USA and is Not the one for Mazda cars…thats your first hurdle…. then there UBC  is for other types of car,s  thats the tricky bit you have to get the blocks for the RX~8….. then take out the pins from there UBC to  small head unit  and place them into the Mazda aux unit …

You need to know what your doing as you can blow the complete Mazda head unit if you get the five wire connection incorrectly..  you also need to link the two live wires one to the Ignition and the other to the head unit live also you need a good Earth point but not with other earths terminals

You need A USB aux connection either through you cigarette lighter point or one of those multi adaptors …….

I have hard wired mine in now and I think its one of the best mods I have done……I am keeping this for my self as I am road testing it for a while but it works with V10.1 & V9.81 firm ware…….. the picks do not give much away

total cost around £25.00

First eat some Rice Gives you Energy  ;D  :13:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/exiledviking/35126256854/in/dateposted-public/

then take couple of ally strips and start fabricating them these do have a purpose they protect the under side of the front bumper

https://www.flickr.com/photos/exiledviking/35156252703/in/dateposted-public/

cut/ shape

there still in the build stage as theres some tweaks to do once completed they will be put on the new front end to get the right look then sent off to be covered in carbon effect hydro dip...... just a quick update as I am not attending any shows with the car this year.........

So the Build goes on for the last few days I been modding the second part of my rear defuser I have taken photos of various Rear defusers and made one of my own I only done the panels as yet but the modded parts have come to gather well so Here a few pics and a slide show thanks for taking the time to look

the first part was the inserts that idid last year :-

https://www.flickr.com/photos/exiledviking/35924812146/in/dateposted-public/

The full kit made up of aluminium and a rubber/resin/fibre board that will be hydro dipped in a Carbon fibre effect...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/exiledviking/35156230123/in/dateposted-public/

the ally plate is to the road side and is a scuff plate only the small fins four of them will have ally strips on the base road side protection

https://www.flickr.com/photos/exiledviking/35924813386/in/dateposted-public/

one of the four fins the kit still has a long way to go and is only in rough form at the moment still more cutting to do to accommodate the tow hitch and the pull down electrics .....

the kit put together mounts and some rear bumper to cut so this fits its not just for show it will be there with the help for some rear end down force ....

https://www.flickr.com/photos/exiledviking/35126283614/in/dateposted-public/

all the fitting nuts bolts will be done in Orange all but the ally scuff plate will be done in Hydro Dipped Carbon Fibre  Effect to see more pics  please click on the slide show below ;)

thanks for taking the time to look

Thanks Chris the front end bits are away for finishing that will be the nose cone /bumper done and then this kit will be sent off to have the hydro bits done will post some picks of it mock mounted up just making the  mounting brackets for it now and some cutting to be done one the lower old bumper

I have got some hight/reverse/front sensors to fit front and rear with a new screen just cos its all getting a little low now   :sign0135: yep another screen I am taking out the crash cameras  ??? ??? :icon_scratch: too replace them with another unit that looks and is better than the one I have this will be mounted behind the mirror .... then this screen will be mounted where the camera is now keeping it all tidy ....... ;)

this unit Below at the moment dose not support a rear camera how ever I have an Email back from the supplier that in september this unit will support a  unit attachment for a separate cam to the main unit as a completed package so this will replace my old unit

This Is Only A Mock Up Of the Defuser Fitting......So Made the Mounting brackets today and did a trial  Run Of the Rear Defuser still a long way to go but I think there going to be enough rear down force on the lower wings the defuser is not just for show and when completed will be finished of in a Carbon effect hydro Dip....

Also went with the double staggered wing  as there is enough air flow for this modding the rear bumper was 4  X 3/4 slots need to be cut but hardly noticeable....!

Thank for taking the time to Look....!

mock up brackets made but some adjustments to be done, all the aluminium to be coated black nuts and bolts also need to be done in Orange .... this is only a Mock up the finished effect will look a little different .

[URL=http://s32.photobucket.com/user/Tonyspictures1/media/Rear%20Defuser%20Mod%202017/fullsizeoutput_a8c_zpspgcgn37k.jpeg.html](http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3/Tonyspictures1/Rear%20Defuser%20Mod%202017/fullsizeoutput_a8c_zpspgcgn37k.jpeg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/Tonyspictures1/media/Rear%20Defuser%20Mod%202017/fullsizeoutput_a8b_zpssyjiuxnr.jpeg.html)

As you can see the Defuser is mostly under the rear bumper & not protruding or extending the length of the body ...Also there no need to have it under the exhausts as they have there own air scoops

Cool...no huffing a puffing...i really want 1 of those car of the week sales ramps you used to see...just drive up it lol. Looked at lifts for the garage and just not enough height...
I got these...alright unless you need to take a wheel off and had to make extending ramps out of old deck boards.get pretty high. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171201/ba34a528cbcc9f3568d531d187514456.jpg)

They look cool i looked at getting them but as you say no good if you need to work on the wheels plus I have the low front bumper... the two jacks I got where on a good sale price at a rated 3 ton each they work well i made a multi adaptor that clips on to the battery so both jacks can be operated at the same time I will post my link to face book to see if that works.....

Thanks guys this is an old mod but Now the controls are from the steering Wheel....

Hi all as some Members already Know I have Hid-away Number Plates that work form Remote Key Fobs so I had two key Fobs for the Front number plate with one of them i got the Idea of using the blank right cover on the steering wheel to house the remote and got hold of a second hand one to modify....also the Idea was to cover both covers left and right in the Carbon fibre effect hydro dip done by Wicked coating's of poole

so in picture form I got to it making the cut outs

once happy with the cut outs then mixed some resin with a blue colour

when the Red led illumination comes on it is very bright so mixing the blue in with the resin this then tones down the lighting and you get a purple/blue/red mixture and is less blinding to the eyes at night

Next MOD ......... ;) ;) ;)

Hi back with another Mod build I needed to do this as the ATH hinsburger Front end although its good I needed to have some form of protection and make the front bumper more ridged...... I did not like the look of the splitter type ones you can buy and I need to make mine a three piece project .................

So take some 3.0 mm aluminium plate cut two pieces 120 cm x 25 cm

This allows you to make a curve once cut place the ally on the underside of the front bumper to mark out your mounting holes  and make a general shape then its back to the bench for moulding out with a hammer and files ... ;)  ;)

once you got a rough shape the keep offering it up to the front bumper to make sure that you got the look you want I added a few bits of my own  see pics for some shaping I used chemical metal bond

After your happy with your end result then bolt it up on the bumper to make sure you to canards/splitters look and have the same pitch then it was on to make the centre part this is made from a Ford focus front grill just cut it down and shaped it

Once I had done this I sent all the parts to Wicked Coatings Poole to  Cover the parts in Carbon fibre effect hydro Dip

Back from hydro dipping then i added some Edging of split Rubber and some Mesh wire grill

Then just fitted the 3 pice kit to the car  I also made some strakes out of aluminium 7 mm X 15 mm shaped and drilled two threaded  rear mounting holes these have been placed just above the canard see photo,s

The finish touch was to use a thick layer of tiger seal the reason for this  if you shape the seal and make it flush it will then stop any grit leafs general road shit getting it and make it easier to clean

Ally cost                 Â£55.40

ford focus grill       Â£4.50

tiger seal               Â£  5.60

Split Rubber seal    £ 1.75

Mesh Grill              £2.20

Tools and time around 3 hours .......

Gas heat torch
Files
Saw
Rubber hammer
Drill
8mm Drill bit

Very happy this end product is the second set I have made

Thank You for Taking The Time To Look  ;)  ;)

Thanks for the feed back chaps  :13: :13:

well been working on the side skirt extensions today almost done them just waiting for the aero scoop to come back from wicked coatings its being dipped in carbon effect to blend in with everything else, as these six bits have been hand made from SIDE SKIRTS SPLITTERS (GLOSS BLACK) FOR MAZDA 3 MPS MK1  you will know that there shape/and join lines  would not look right being one long part in fact they would never match up hence 3 parts with the mesh allowing the lines to look more aesthetic pleasing

If it was me I'd stay away, but I'm wired up that way..... If they had looked after it a bit better and it wasn't their fault, I may be sympathetic
