Hey guys,
I took the fd out the other day and every time I went over a pot hole or a hump theirs a knocking noise coming from the rear driverside. Is their anything that I should look at in particular? I've had this problem before on my mx5 and it was the top mount but once I get a chance I will look at the top mount but for now is their anything I should look out for so when I do get a chance I can just look at everything that may cause the knocking.
Thanks for the help guys much appreciated.
From what I understand the FD suffers from a clunking arse.
May be worth checking if there is any play in the pillowball bushes on the lower suspension arm, these can cause a knocking when they are warn.
The rear end has plenty of components that wear but don't ignore the boot latch. FDs are all a bit long in the tooth now; rubbers get compressed, the chassis flexes over time etc and the tailgate can move/jump over bumps. The latch plate is bolted directly to the body so it transmits the noise which may sound to you to be coming from one side or the other.
Start cheap: Wrap some tape round the latch on the body till you can just get the tailgate to close. Drive the car and see if the rattle is still there. If it is not - you have just saved yourself a whole heap of work and money, can leave the tape in place or adjust the latch/stiker till the hatch closes securely and stays quiet.
For the record - I did this the other way around. :-[
